Senior cat, how to decide when to let them go?

update: So we took her back this morning after no success with food or water - we felt we were just going to be in the same place with a hydration issue plus day 6 of no food. By the way tube feeding wasn't an option whilst the nose is so blocked but the drugs aren't clearing it. On Thursday...

Senior cat, how to decide when to let them go?

Thank you for so many thoughtful responses. It was a long night. She is enjoying being held but can't breathe well now. She is adamant not to eat or drink, she won't accept even water in a syringe, spits it out or comes out her nose. She came to us at ten years old with the hope she could live...

Senior cat, how to decide when to let them go?

Hello I have a 16 year old, who last week showed symptoms of flu. I started treatment quick as another cat had it the previous week and many in the area had it. After 2 days of sneezing she stopped eating and drinking, which isn't that unusual for her when she is off colour. After 3 days we...

Inappropriate peeing started in 2 year old, urine test all clear...what next?

Will check blood sugar, but it was a full test and microscope analysis

Inappropriate peeing started in 2 year old, urine test all clear...what next?

I was wondering (and hoping) the same. It has gone completely through the chair (and damaged the wooden floor, yikes). Maybe I need to pour the solution through the chair too

Inappropriate peeing started in 2 year old, urine test all clear...what next?

Hi Everyone This one has me baffled, would love to hear what you think. I have a two year old male, docile, friendly, lovely boy..you know one of those just perfect cats. He has just started to pee on an arm chair :headshake: I don't know for how long as he manages to do it right in the corner...

Senior Cat Yowling And Erratic Eating, Advice Please

Haha yeah my two youngest are pretty good. I am quite strict with kittens, I don't give up until I get them to understand No, their name and follow. Our lovely boy Buddy knows clicking fingers means cuddle time, it's pretty sweet

Senior Cat Yowling And Erratic Eating, Advice Please

Thanks for your reply and comments, it is helpful. I haven't taken her to the vet yet. Mostly because we had two completely howl free nights but then it came back. I did notice that on those days I was out more and therefore not feeding her every few hours. So I tried very regular feeding again...

Senior Cat Yowling And Erratic Eating, Advice Please

Thanks that's useful. She is about 16 and had blood tests about 2 years ago when she wasn't well and everything was normal. There is nothing to be done for the nerve damage and it doesn't seem to cause pain or inconvenience to her although she is so difficult at the vet he can never examine her...

Senior Cat Yowling And Erratic Eating, Advice Please

Thanks I hadn't seen that article. I had read about dementia but interestingly there are some signs in the article I hadn't read about that she does - pacing in particular and she has had some toilet issues which had seem very random. I asked my vet about dementia in cats before and he said...

Senior Cat Yowling And Erratic Eating, Advice Please

Hello all I have looked though and read many of the topics and advice posted on loud crying/ yowling. I am experiencing this with an aging kitty and have done for a while now. She is getting louder and louder, sometimes wakes in the night yowling which seems quite common. I used to be able to...

    Grieving Female Cat

Sorry for your loss :( 21 years, you gave him a good life :) We had this and our particular female was grieving for 2-3 months. Strange behaviour that was very out of sorts so you need to keep her close and not get another one yet and judge what she wants. We did introduce a cat after this time...

    Change In Behaviour

Hahaha! I must admit Freckles is a little madame (tortoiseshell of course) and doesn't like to lose a fight

    Change In Behaviour

That's very interesting, both Buddy and Freckles were abandoned kittens, I fostered them at 3 weeks. Freckles was taken on by another adult cat at the time and was taught to go out, hunt etc by her but Buddy didn't. It actually took him a year to want to go outside

    Change In Behaviour

Yeah he is. Thanks for that - I do remove him as you suggest, say NO firmly and have held him down when he is a bit hyper. He tends to go straight back for the kill! But I shall persist seeing as it seems I am on the right track
