My poor boy died last week.  A vet came out to the house.  We buried him during the eclipse, which felt very fitting. It was the worst thing I've ever had to do and I am really, really not coping right now.

I think cats react differently to sedation and anaesthetic. My sister says that her cat goes completely mental like yours.  If you are fearful for the cat's wellbeing, it might be as well to shut her in a room with lots of soft things and nothing that she can break! It can go on for 2-3 days...
