Chronic rhinitis with facial asymmetry/Nasal mass

If she had herpes as a kitten I believe she would still have herpes now. That is a big difference between our cats - mine has consistently tested negative for herpes and never had any symptoms like this his entire life (adopted as a kitten). I think cats with herpes can end up with flare ups...

Chronic rhinitis with facial asymmetry/Nasal mass

Was your cat’s congestion bilateral or unilateral? > One vet said the discharge seemed unilateral and suspected teeth. A few months later the same vet did not think so anymore. That vet also said basically some cats have chronic rhinitis for life, nothing can really do but antibiotics sometimes...

Chronic rhinitis with facial asymmetry/Nasal mass

I am just ending a 7 month long chronic rhinitis saga with my 12 year old male cat. Was the vet not able to check for masses / x ray etc while she was getting the flush? Mine had biopsies, xrays, blood tests, antibiotics, steroids, etc nothing really helped or cleared it. In the end he has...

    Pododermatitis on paw

My cat had bleeding crusty paws for a year. Tried many antibiotics, steroids, switched litter... Had a biopsies done and came back as pododermatitis. When I brought up diet, every vet I saw (even after biopsy) said it would not usually be caused by food so do not need to change diet. I...

Pet insurance for the first time, when I have a senior cat?

I got insurance for my cat at 7 or 8 which is a bit younger who had no pre-existing conditions. I got the highest deductible from trupanion which is $1000 to make it more affordable. He is now 12 and has hit the deductible for respiratory issues and (what seems like) IBD. I got it for big...

Healthy novel protein dry food suggestions (maybe IBD)

Thank you! This looks great aside from chicken ingredients. Chicken is in virtually everything 😞

Healthy novel protein dry food suggestions (maybe IBD)

My 12 year old male cat had frequent vomiting and stopped eating last year briefly - tests suspected IBD and he changed to dry and wet versions of royal canin selected protein pd (duck and pea) which completely solved the vomiting. Before that he had been eating grain free foods his entire...

Bruce here, looking for a Russian Blue for my daughter.

I am a russian blue afficionado and live with two purebred. I have had blues from Japan, US and Canada (who were all distantly related based on pedigree!). I have friends who are allergic to cats who have said they still feel a reaction when they visit my home, so you cannot guarantee your...

    Pet insurance recommendations?

I like trupanion because there is lifetime coverage of 90% per condition once you meet the deductible for a condition. The reason I have it is for major issues (something that would rack up $20,000 for example). Not as concerned for smaller expenses. Other insurance may be less expensive for...

Congested cat - symptoms back right after antibiotics

I finally dug up the vaccine record he got a few months ago - it was rabies, Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (FHV-1), Feline Calicivirus (FCV), Feline Panleukopenia (FPL). Only bordatella vaccine could trigger a false positive for bordatella, I assume? The two vets also do not agree if he should...

Congested cat - symptoms back right after antibiotics

Oh wow he is 12 I did not realize it could have been there for a long time. The urgent care vet who did the test suggested doxycycline. It is complicated because he just saw his new primary vet who thinks it could be something more potentially chronic because only his left nostril was affected...

Congested cat - symptoms back right after antibiotics

His PCR test came back for bordatella (kennel cough??) which apparently Clavamox is not very effective for so that may explain why symptoms persisted after antibiotics. Peculiar since he is an indoor cat and has not boarded anywhere.

Congested cat - symptoms back right after antibiotics

Thanks for the advice Luckily he is eating and has not stopped eating throughout. The eating sounds kind of funny since he is congested! He had a liquid antibiotic for 7 days. I did notice he was less severe in two days or so. They also gave him some kind of antibiotic eye drops but I was not...

Last question...I promise!! Regarding vet suspected IBD and protein intolerance.

My cat has suspected IBD too. His symptoms went away on a limited protein vet diet (duck). I often wonder if he had an allergy to fish - a lot of the grain free foods he ate had some fish products in them. I hope to investigate this angle at some point. Just something to think about if his foods...
