    Update on Lucy's CRF--new results

Lucy's been on Hills k/d food since the end of July. Back then her creatinine was 3.8, and her BUN was 53. She was eating the food well, though not a ton of it, and the vomiting had stopped other than a couple of instances. I took her in again last week for another blood draw, to recheck...

    Hairballs....again....and a question

OK, you may remember my issue with VERY frequent hairballs. --Lucy, age 13, is now on k/d for kidney issues. She is eating some dry and some canned. Since I've elevated her bowls, she is vomiting MUCH less, and is eating more. Win/win! --Silas, age 9, is on c/d for a previous urinary...

Does my cat looks like a snowshoe mix or a siamese mix?

I’d say he’s definitely got some Siamese blood! He’s beautiful!

At my wit's end with hairballs

Thanks for replying. I wish I could let Lucy free feed, I think she'd like that. She only weighs 7.5 pounds, down from 9 a couple of years ago. She's been on the K/D food for a couple of weeks now. She really seems to like it, fortunately. Since the other cat is also on prescription food...

Update on Lucy--got the bloodwork results (actual numbers)

Another update. While Lucy will eat the k/d food, she has thrown up five of her last eight meals where that’s what she ate. I talked to one of the techs at the vet yesterday and she said try switching her back to her normal food and see if she throws up. So I gave her that and it stayed down...

Update on Lucy--got the bloodwork results (actual numbers)

Yes they did a urinalysis. It showed the urine was not being concentrated. And the vet didn’t say anything about a phosphorus binder. He just said to repeat the blood work after she’s been on the food for a couple of months. I am not comfortable doing sub-q fluids. We did that with a...

Update on Lucy--got the bloodwork results (actual numbers)

Lucy was diagnosed with kidney disease a week or so ago. She's 13. She is now on k/d food. The dry stuff, which she likes but is struggling to keep down consistently. Today I bought a few cans of the wet k/d to see if she'll eat it. Also stopped at the vet's and got the printout of the...

At my wit's end with hairballs

Good news, Lucy likes the k/d food. She did, however, vomit it up yesterday morning after eating. And this morning I gave her a couple of hairball treats and she threw them up. I know kidney disease can cause nausea, which brings me to my next question: is it better to free feed a cat with...

At my wit's end with hairballs

He did not give me actual numbers. Said her phosphorous was a bit high, and kidney values were 'slightly elevated'. My main issue with all this is that the vet says she may be nauseated, which is causing the vomiting--but it is generally only hairballs that come up, not food. You'd think...

At my wit's end with hairballs

Heard back from the vet. Her kidney values are elevated. He wants to put her on a prescription food (Hills k/d) and recheck her values in 4-6 weeks. He also said to continue with the laxatone for hairballs; said that kidney disease can make them nauseated and maybe that's why she is having so...

Lucy isn’t the one who had crystals, that’s the other cat.

At my wit's end with hairballs

I took Lucy to the vet today. They did bloodwork and urinalysis, results will be in on Monday. The vet said it could be thyroid or kidney related; I am just hoping for an answer.

At my wit's end with hairballs

Thanks for everyone's replies. I went to get her some more of her food today, which is pumpkin & duck. She's been out of this for a few weeks, and of course pumpkin can help with digestive issues, so maybe that is playing into it. Also picked up a sample of N&D digestive food, and a couple...
