Hey guys,
I have an update and a question.
Both our cats are now friends with Manchester - they play together, snuggle together, and lick each other all the time. So that's good - he now has company.
In terms of his interaction with us, he's pretty chill when it he's being fed. We can pet him...
Our second cat seems to have warmed up to Manchester... so here's our happy kitty family.
Since he's getting along with them, we've let him explore the rest of his apartment, except the kitchen, which is where the cat food is. Since we want to socialize him and he's most willing to be...
I wonder if he's responding to our cat's level of vocalization. Our cats are siamese mutts and definitely have the siamese personality. So they make a lot of noises. When these guys first met they were just running around the room, trilling at each other.
Another interesting thing is that as...
Here's little guy (whose name is now Manchester) playing with one of our cats.
The other cat doesn't like him very much, but I think he's coming around.
Thanks for the encouragement guys :)
Wanted to give an update:
He's still generally scared of us, but he's getting more habituated to things. My wife went back to working from her office (the room that we dedicated to the kitten) and he runs around the room while she's there and plays with...
So I just had an incident with the little guy.
I've tried to back off of him the past couple of days since you guys advised to me to go slower. I started trying to pet him when he's in his crate just once a day (I used to do it after every feeding). I still do it while he's eating, but he only...
So I figured out a trick to pet him while he's eating :) I hold the food container with one hand, then with my other hand put a finger on the container. Once he's OK with that, I rub his head with my finger as he's eating. If he's still OK with that, I start using my full hand and going further...
Hey guys,
So puzzle me this: he's hesitantly willing to sit on my lap to eat food. If I hold the container with my middle finger and thumb and pet him with my index while he's face down in the food, he doesn't mind one bit.
But every 10 seconds or so he looks up at me and if I dont turn away...
Thanks, that's a good point about taking things slow. I guess at first we were afraid that we weren't making any progress and we couldn't indefinitely keep a kitten that cries all night and keeps everyone awake.
Right now we also have pressure to have him at a point where he'll at least be safe...
True, a lot of it is just letting the cat do its thing. The more "proactive" stuff we've done with this kitten has worked so far though. We can safely scruff him now, he no longer bites and hasn't scratched in two days now (still hisses, but that's about it). He's comfortable enough to be fed by...
Oh, that's a neat idea about the tshirts. Will try giving him a T-shirt after a workout :D
I looked up the slow blinks after you mentioned them. I'm not really good at telling if they do it. I think he's still too scared of me - but my wife says he returned it. He also hisses less at her.
The...
Thanks guys!
It's funny about Jackson Galaxy - we've discussed opening up a cat & dog shelter at some point in the far future. We live in Fes, which has the biggest intact medieval city in the world (that people still live in) and because the streets are so narrow, people use donkeys instead of...
Hey guys,
So our house cats (~3.5 months old) came into the little guy's room today (he's in his crate).
I didn't let them get too close, but he went totally crazy. Started poking at the cage door, trying to open it and otherwise find a way out. Particularly kept sticking his paw through the...
Thanks! I watched those videos and tried the thing where you let him eat while you pet him. Overall it worked - he got used to me stroking his back while he ate. I got scratched a couple of times at first but thankfully his nails aren't all that long yet so they barely break the skin.
The issue...
