I just wanted to chime in that “human grade” is an unregulated term meant to appeal to owners, it is not a guarantee of quality or anything of the sort.
The vet will likely give her a dewormer med when you take her for vaccinations. Also be a good idea to start flea preventative meds - there are a few options.
As for feeding - wet food is preferable to dry because cats have a low thirst drive. If you can afford a fully wet food diet, great...
My kitty gets 2 meals of dry and 2 of wet each day. Based on her daily total calories, I give her a half of a 3oz can of Fancy Feast pate for breakfast and the second half at dinner. That keeps the wet food fairly easy (I do make sure that the cans I choose have roughly the same total calories...
Agreed with Krienze. FF classic pate are some of the better foods out there. Blue has too many sick pets to be coincidence...
I also feed Iam wet and Nutro wet (similar to Sheba in the USA)
Not mine. She just turned 4 in March, indoor only, pretty much a professional napper. She is on a diet to lose 1-2lbs (she is down just over 1lb so time to adjust again), but she eats about 165cals per day. Half is from wet food, half from dry. I do know that 180cals/day will put weight on her.
Totally understand your frustration but a $60 bag of food is the lowest cost starting point. Testing is going to add up quickly.
Hopefully the vet finds something that is easy to treat ❤
I have a kitty with a sensitive tummy too. She is prone to unhappy poops with "super premium" kibble like Orijen etc. Royal Canin Sensitive Digestion had an immediately positive effect for her. Price is moderate too.
Thanks again :) grabbed a few Fancy Feast to try
Grabbed a few cans of Fancy Feast today but if she doesn't like them, will just stick with the Iams and RC kibble. Litter box issues are gone and she seems quite happy :)
Thank you! I have switched her to Royal Canin Sensitive Digestion dry and added breakfast and dinner of wet food. Tummy issues have resolved entirely. I am going to look for a better dry food though - the RC has a load of grains :/
Wet right now is Iams Portions which she seems to enjoy. I...
My kitty is being transitioned to a wet/dry combo diet. Orijen Cat/Kitten doesn't agree with her - random bouts of runny poops and otherwise very smelly even when formed.
Have been thinking about this... Olive was through a full small bag of Orijen before any issues started - still think it could be an intolerance? The stinky big poops are concerning.
I will head to the pet store today and stock up on wet food. We are almost out of the Royal Canin so I can...
All dry - but I have given her a bit of Iams wet that I had left from her dental surgery to try to get more moisture into her since the RC dry seems to be making things too slow. It hasn't had any negative effect and she likes it.
No, I haven't booked an appt for her yet. She has seen our vet once since we got her after we were concerned that she ate some of a Rainbow Loom bracelet - we were to watch and see along with Laxatone for a few days... She showed no signs of concern so all good there.
Hmmm, what would you...
