Does he get upset when the water starts running for the faucet/toilet/bathtub? Coco enjoys checking out the bathroom even when nobody is in there, but as soon as she hears water running, she makes a quick exit.
Is the bathroom door closed when he's meowing and whining? If so, his behavior might be because he know you or your husband is in another room he doesn't have access to.
Is it possible you could play with your younger cat more often to dissuade her from playing too hard with your senior cat?
If not, I think Wile has good advice on finding a 3rd cat that is compatible with both of your cats.
Adventure Girl,
Thank you for your story. I have also struggled with depression and I think it's very true about how cats can be therapeutic for depression. Cats don't ask for much but they give so much love and affection.
At the shelter there was a short bio for each of my cats, but unfortunately I can't remember what exactly was written about them. Something I really enjoy about them is how their personalities complement each other. Kacie's a quiet and more independent cat, while Coco is much more talkative...
Shortly before I adopted her, Kacie was one of the cats being highlighted at the shelter for St. Patrick's day. I was actually in the room when one of the workers was trying to get a picture of her wearing a green necklace. She tolerated the process but obviously didn't like wearing something...
Lunaart,
Please don't feel guilty about the things you could have done but didn't. You put forth an incredible amount of effort with trying to improve Alfie's health. It sounds like his health was at the point where all you and the vet could do at most was prolong his suffering. I think you...
Have your cats really bonded with any of your family members? If not, they may adapt successfully with only having you around. Who knows, they might end up sleeping when you're gone or find ways to entertain themselves. :)
I've done the same, minus the blanket with my cat Kacie. Realizing she can't easily escape and not seeing the bottle I think helped to make the process more tolerable for her. She still ran away to a safe location when I was done, but at least she cooperated with receiving the ear drops.
I think it's difficult to precisely predict what sort of cat will be an ideal companion for Cali. I think the most you can do is to slowly introduce them slowly to each other and avoid adopting a cat that has an obvious personality clash with Cali's.
You may not want to get a lap cat...
Coco likes to go into the bathroom when I'm in there, however, she quickly makes an exit as soon as I flush the toilet or run the water to take a shower.
