Meet Mo(w)gli, our new grief counselor

Like a little panther. Gorgeous. He's really a grown cat now, isn't he? I've never had a black cat. Is it true that they seek out sunny spots more than other cats, because the sun warms black fur so easily?

I need to know my cat breed

It's spelled "harlequin", if you want to look it up (I checked; Google says that's the right spelling.) Harlequin is just a bit more color than Van, with spots along the back and top of the head. I think it goes Van, Harlequin, Tuxedo, and then just a little white medallion on the chest, in...

This cat came to my window

You should get a vet to check the cat--it seems to have misaligned teeth, and the vet should check to be sure it's something that the cat was born with, rather than due to an injury. The round face looks a little like a British shorthair, but I think you have a mixed-breed cat on your hands...

Do indoor cats really need vaccines?

At least don't let him out until he's fixed--please. There are too many unwanted kittens. :(

Someone else's cat...seems to prefer being with us!

Yeah. You did the right thing. Without you, Rosie would've been suffering, alone, without anyone to comfort him. With your help, he was warm, safe, and fed. That makes a big difference. Have you talked to the other neighbor who's also been feeding Rosie? I think you could find a friend there...

Meet my POLYDACTYL: Is he a Ragdoll? Snowshoe? Birman? Siamese?

Mm, yes... from way back he might have Siamese, since that's where the pointed pattern came from, but who knows what's been mixed in since? He's a bit of a Ragdoll lookalike, but you can't really tell with mixed-breed cats; it could be pure coincidence or he could have a purebred parent and...

    Tiny Kittens!!

Once they are 5 weeks old or so, you can start arranging visits with potential adopters. Five weeks obviously isn't old enough to leave Mom (that's 10-12 weeks), but it's old enough to have and interact with visitors. It increases the "cute kitten" time they have to find new homes. Tell your...

    Tiny Kittens!!

Oh my goodness! Soon they are going to be all over the place! Will the house survive in one piece? We may never know...

    Tiny Kittens!!

Mom can't be feral; she let you touch her at your first visit. I bet someone dumped her or lost her--I'm guessing dumped, if they didn't bother to give her enough care to get her spayed. At least she has landed on her feet. She is probably just a little shy, and will warm up to people she gets...

    Cat Abuse!!!! aka Halloween Costumes

Well, I don't think it's cat abuse, but if it really upsets your cat, please don't do it :( Most cats would just wiggle away and let you know they didn't like it, but there are those cats who are so shy and retiring and let you do things that make them upset because they're just kind of resigned...

Do indoor cats really need vaccines?

You're mentioning the possibility of rescuing a stray--many of us have done that, and either kept the cat or found it a home; but in either case the cat stayed with us for at least a while. If we do rescue a cat, and we have to vaccinate all of our current cats before they can mix, that means a...

    Move over daddy

Yeah, this is why ESAs (emotional support animals) are a real thing. A cat doesn't need to be a trained service animal to provide a link to the world that someone with dementia can catch hold of. An ESA is special because people who have ESAs need that link with another living creature so much...

    Move over daddy

I bet she'd like Tiny. He's a certified emotional support animal, and right now, he is trying to get me to go to bed because he knows it's past my bedtime. I am pretty sure he thinks I am a big furless kitten. :)

Do indoor cats really need vaccines?

The rabies vaccine is killed and so widely used that it's one of the more low-risk ones. I feel that an indoor cat that catches a rabid bat may still be at risk, so I vaccinate mine for rabies.
