I do think cats are capable of loving their owners, I really do.  I use, as a point of personal reference, my own past experience with our two cats - both of whom were adopted at 8 - 10 weeks old.  We nurtured them, handled and cuddled on our laps, fed them well (perhaps more than was necessary)...

It's Fresh Step for us here.  I first began using it when we adopted our two prior cats back in 1987 and used it for 20 years.  Now... I still buy it though for some reason it seems a bit more granulated than before but it does cover unpleasant scent very well until I discover Penny  has used it.  

I am just curious, did you get Kiwi when she was a really young kitten since she doesn't care to be picked up or to sit on your lap?  I just assumed that young kittens raised from 8 - 10 weeks old would be socialized early and be very loving and come to be accustomed to sitting on one's lap if...
