We give it as “treats” at the clinic I work at. They’re big square kibbles and pretty thick and hard. Most dogs do have to work a bit to eat them, but some of the bigger dogs just swallow them whole anyway so in that case they wouldnt do much good of course. lol I’m not sure how big the cat ones...
Well, there is SOME logic to it. Some brands do make big kibbles that the cat has to chew, and those pieces scrape against the teeth and help to remove tarter. I hate that “chips” argument because chips are thin and easily broken up. They dont really scrape against your teeth at all I feel. The...
I’ve heard of them...I’m holding off on the truly novel proteins though in case he develops some other allergy and has no other choice but to eat them.
Hello!
So, my cat has a poultry allergy. I don’t like to order food online in the big cases because he gets bored of eating the same thing over and over, and I notice he eats with less gusto or picks at his food.
I’ve noticed lately he’s seemed bored with his options. I’m currently feeding him...
My cats budget is $50 a month. He eats a rotating diet of Wellness Beef and Salmon, Lotus Pork Pate, and Canidae Pure sea wet food. If his normal options are on sale I can sometimes fit Tiki Cat, Nature's Variety, and Wellness Signature Selects in there as well.
Right now hes getting Instinct...
Well, usually an allergy develops when they eat the same protein for years and years, not when they've previously been on a hypo diet and have now switched over. I'd start ruling out things like poultry, fish, grains, gums, etc.
Have you tried a probiotic? His gut flora may be off causing all...
Yeah thats weird. Most cats can change wet foods no problem. Maybe he developed an allergy? My cat is allergic to poultry and throws up immeadiately after eating it if its wet, gets diarrhea if its dry. It could be an underlying issue as well...
Have you talked to a vet? I wouldn't give your cat any supplements without speaking with a vet first.
All kinds of things could make your cats coat dull, doesn't automatically mean its a tyrosine deficiency. What food are you feeding her?
My black cat went from low quality royal canin at the...
I know you said your funds are low/gone, but is there any way you could get him in for an anti-emetic shot like Cerenia? If hes not vomiting and feeling nausiated he may be more willing to eat. Cats shouldn't go longer than two days without eating; they can develop pancreantitis or hepatic...
If you have a Trader Joe's near you, their 5.5 oz cans are $.89 I believe, maybe a little lower. The quality is pretty good considering the price.
Edit: Just noticed you wanted non-pate, the trader joes is pate.
Taste of the wild has like cube chunks, but I think their cans are around $1.19...
I'm a big fan of Wellness. Its a mid-price wet food that comes in the big 12 oz cans. It's usually 2.89 where I am, sometimes it goes on sale and that helps bring cost down. I think some of the flavors are a little cheaper too, but my cat has a poultry sensitivty though so he eats Beef and...
Currently feeding my boy Lotus, Wellness, and Canidae wet food. He gets about 6 oz total a day. He has a poultry allergy which cuts out a lot of food (especially dry), so he eats a lot of beef, pork, and salmon.
I love Wellness! And so does my cat! He only eats the Beef and Salmon flavor, but thats because he had a poultry allergy and Beef and Salmon is the only formula with no poultry. He loves it, he eats mostly that and Lotus, but Lotus is a brand made right here in California so it's probably no...
Some cats do have a reaction to the hydrolyzed protein diets and have to be on an even more hydrolyzed diet. I know Royal Canin has a "super" hydrolyzed diet. You'd have to ask your vet specficially what it is...but you'd still be spending a bunch on food.
My cat also has a poultry...
