Good evening everyone :
I have a question abt hairballs and how frequent is it possible for cat to vomit hairball , I know it must be not more than once/mth but my cat lately started vomiting hairballs nothing else every two or three days it's been two or three weeks like this , I talked to our vet and tried to stop dry food cz he is eating dry food fast , so I feed him wetfood and the vomiting reduced a little but today he vomited hairball again and now he vomited white foam and walked away and didn't eat
So now my vet said first we will shave his hair or give him hair cut and will examine him ( we have oppt tomorrow) but is this familiar, I know my cat's stomach is sensitive since he was kitten, but why hairball this frequent, another thing is that my sis is the one brushing my cats cz these days I am out all the day and she told me it's so hard to brush him cz he hate brushing so much and she is afraid to annoy him , will this be part of the problem too !

Are you brushing him? There are hairball things to give.. hairball treats and laxatone..

If it is as pronounced as much as every 2-3 days, then you really need to check into it further. I am not sure if shaving him is the answer. I would seek further testing.. He could also have a chicken allergy, or an allergy to an ingredient in his food.

Especially if he has had a sensitive stomach since he was a kitten.. I would talk to the Vet about changing his food to a novel protein diet, rather than put him through the trauma of shaving. Novel Protein: a meat source which he has never had before---like rabbit, venison, quail, duck.. make sure there is no chicken in it..

Not to worry you, but my guy is allergic to chicken---after his only symptoms were vomiting.. I insisted on an endoscopy. It came out as small cell lymphoma.

((hugs))

Brushing certainly helps and the canned food will help as well - if you can obtain a novel protein as mentioned above even better, but it's good that you're taking him to the vet.

Cats ingest hair while they groom. There's no stopping that. The fur turns into clumps inside the stomach which then gets vomited out when it irritates the stomach. You can try hairball gels and the like to help the hairballs pass through the stomach and out into the litter box. For a more natural remedy, you can try raw egg yolk (no raw egg white) or egg yolk lecithin. There's info here: How Best to Manage Hairballs

The thing is it was all hairball till this evening and my vet wasn't even worried that much but few hours ago he vomited white foam three times and didn't eat , Idk if this normal from hairball irritation or not I am so worried tbh and no one is open now

Foamy liquid is stomach acid. Some cats do this when they go too long without food. How many meals do you give your cat in a day?
