Hissing and batting tends to mean "go away" as distinct from fighting's "I want to kill you". Its not uncommon from a party stressed by an introduction. It might mean that your more than a day away, but otherwise I wouldn't attribute too much significance to it. With older cats, you'd have to worry a bit about it triggering a real fight, but I've never heard of kittens this young having a real fight.

So the stalking and slight chasing to get to him now to bat, hiss, and growl at him aren't concerning? It seems Penny is now going out of her way to do it.

Oh? That sounds like Penny is trying to play perhaps?

If they start rolling around while hissing (and probably screaming) thats a fight; I wouldn't worry about anything else. I don't think you'll see a fight, haven't heard of one with kittens this young, but you never know.

So Penny vomited again last night. I don't think she is feeling well. She will be going to the vet this morning. She won't go on her cat tree and I am not sure if it's because she isn't feeling well or because Rogue has been on it.

Always something new...

Is the vomit food or hair? If its food, is it pretty quick after you put the food down? And is there food down all the time, or just at mealtimes?

Food is down most of the time, not all the time but probably 90 percent of the time. It is food, didn't notice any hair, ringworm, or foreign objects in it last night. I think she vomited about 45 minutes after eating.

She might be bolting down her food because she views Rogue as competition for a finite resource, then is vomiting it back up (colloquially known as "scarf-n-barf") because she ate too fast. I have one that does this. It might improve as Penny becomes more comfortable with Rogue, or you might have to take measures to slow down her eating. With my Chester, the problem wasn't too bad and improved on its own over time. He still has food resource issues, though. Can't feed him by hand--he'll take your finger off!

Yeah, I hope that's what it is. She has been growling more this morning than normal. She growled at me once which she has never done and I think she is less tolerant of rogues scent this morning. Not sure what is going on.

The vet thinks it's a food issue, whether eating too much of Rogues food or eating too fast. Fecal and blood samples were done and all were clean. She was a bit gassy and the vet gave her an anti-nausea injection and anti-diarrheal pills plus some bland wet food to eat.

She is doing well. She now refuses to go on her cat tree because Rogue has gone on it. So I am hoping that within the week they are friends. It would bum me out if they don't get along.

Sorry for so many questions, but Penny seems to be upset? I guess that's the word for it. Before we adopted Rogue she spent a lot of time in the cat tree and slept in the kitty condo. Now that Rogue has been on it Penny won't go near it. She is hiding more and is just generally less social right now. I know it doesn't help that she hasn't been feeling great, but is this something she will get over? It almost seems like Rogue has completely displaced her and it makes me sad.

Pardon the messy table lol but this is Penny and Rogue eating together. Penny still won't play with him and is hiding more than she was before Rogue came, but she tolerates him enough to eat this closely. Rogue even stuck his head in her bowl and she didn't do anything.

Still worried about Penny being pushed out of the cat tree and hiding more. Hope she comes around. I spent about 45 minutes with just her in the room she likes to hide in last night. She came out from her spot as soon as I called her and rolled onto her back purring while I pet her. She is the sweetest.

So I witnessed some new behavior from Rogue tonight. He was extremely playful with Penny. He would stalk her and then run at her. She didn't seem to appreciate this so she would lunge at him and grab him with her claws and bite him, but he never made a sound and would act normally afterwards. This happened a handful of times tonight. Penny also came over to me and laid on my chest for 15 minutes tonight which was really nice. Rogue walked on me at this time as well and Penny would growl but I just pet her and told her how pretty she is. She seemed to calm down.

She then approached the cat tree and uses the scratching post on it which was really nice to see. Overall, I think things are going well and I am just a new cat owner who is more anxious about this than the cats themselves.

I have also left Rogue and Penny with free reign of the house last night and tonight. So far so good.

When Penny did the lunge-grab-bite maneuver, did she bite him by the neck and pin him down? That's a normal dominance behavior between cats. She's probably showing him who's boss. Lots of females rule the roost, but that's not a given.

No, she bit him or the rear hindquarters. It looked like it was the first thing she could get to.

I also want to note that Rogue will run around the house trilling and will do so after Penny attacks him. I think he believes they are playing, I am not sure if Penny agrees or not lol.

No, that's definitely not a typical sign of dominance. She's probably annoyed by his boisterous attempts to play. No harm done, except possibly to his pride.

I have a hard time telling if Penny is really being aggressive or if she is just more cautious and her chasing him is more playful. I am sure she could hurt him if she wanted to, but she hasnt and their interactions have been constant now for a couple days. I am still worried that Rogue's scent has pushed Penny off the cat tree and she has claimed the dining room table area as hers now, but even then she allows Rogue to go there.

I dont know lol cats are a mystery to me in a lot of ways. I hope we are making progress and that in a few days they will be friends, but I am not sure if that will be the case.

This is what I've wanted since we brought these kitties home! Penny slept on me for an hour and Rogue hopped down to join us towards the end.

Penny is still batting at him and growling but things went well tonight so far. I think Penny is feeling better and that's made her more social. Still won't go on the cat tree but soon hopefully she will retake her throne.

For those who are interested...I woke up this morning to Penny sitting in the kitchen and when she saw me she meowed. I could tell she was hungry so I fed her and Rogue. After they ate their breakfast things got interesting....they actually played together! Rogue approached Penny and they briefly touched noses then Penny half heartedly hissed and swatted at Rogue. Rogue then began to chase Penny and they were running around our couch and stalking each other from behind it. At one point Rogue tackled Penny. During all of this Penny hissed and growled some, I think she is just a vocal cat while playing. It seems that we turned a corner this morning. They arent best friends yet but I think they are on their way to it.
