For our first book of 2021, we’ve chosen one of English author Daphne du Maurier’s most successful works. Per Wikipedia, the book which was published in 1938, has never been out of print, and sold nearly 3 million copies between 1938 and 1965. The novel has been adapted for both stage and screen several times, beginning with Rebecca in 1940, which was directed by Alfred Hitchcock, and most recently the 2020 remake directed by Ben Wheatley for Netflix.

The book for January 2021 is
Rebecca by
Daphne du Maurier

We will be reading it between January 1st and January 21st
Discussion will begin around January 22nd.

As always, everyone is invited to read along with us. You can either RSVP that you're going to read it, by posting in this thread. Or just read it, and then join the discussion once it begins. I think that covers everything, however, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

The book can be purchased at Amazon:
Rebecca at Amazon
(note: if you plan to buy the Kindle version, as of today (Dec 2nd) Amazon USA has for $4.02, regularly $8.99)

Reviews can be read at Goodreads: Rebecca at Goodreads

Since we're half way through December, just a reminder of our January book of the month.

And if you need an idea for a New Year's Resolution ;)

Happy New Year Everyone !!! :celebrate:

To all our regular book club readers, looking forward to our discussion later in the month. To any former book club readers, hope you consider re-joining us. And to anyone who's never read one of our book club books before, you're more than welcome to join in.

And if this month's book doesn't interest you, our February 2021 book will be announced in a few days.

This is another book I threw out. :bawling2: Well, perhaps the print was too small. But, good news! I'm now in the process of paying for an e-book, so I'll be able to join you later this month. I don't think I've read Rebecca before - but you never know! I'm told that at my age I could read just one book over and over again and never notice!

I've read it several times, imho, it is the first psychological thriller.

As I posted before, we're across the pond again in Cornwall, and Mush V verna davies will be serving microwaved
chicken dinner!! yum!!

An uncomfortable read - always with a heavy feeling at the pit of my stomach. It poses questions about the role women should or should not play - but I'm glad I read it again!
I've never read it before, so your comments have me curious about what I'll be reading. :nervous:

Well, you can read it at different levels: a love story, psycho drama or the author's dilemma! It's not at all difficult to read - so I'd like to think, I've encouraged you to read it rather than put you off by my comments. Just enjoy!

Don't worry, I'm going to read it for sure. I'm even going to buy the Kindle version, which I never do, but I really want to read it, and my library doesn't have the e-book.

I started reading it last night.

Her description of walking down the drive in that dream...
... was ... well, the first word that comes to mind is exquisite, but that word isn't really right, and I can't think of a word that fits. However, I normally don't enjoy long, lengthy paragraphs of description, but I loved those ones, and could picture the images in my mind.

I only got as far as the beginning of the 2nd chapter, so not even positive the narrator is Rebecca, however, looking forward to curling up with Ruby, and a cup of tea, later today and reading more.
