Oops, my brain has had a blip, forgot the deadlines for this month were shorter. I will start it today and comment on a few days.
It's a quick read. I started it one day, and finished it the next.

Hope this won't be considered a spoiler. ;)

I've just read it in one sitting. I knew the story but can't remember if I had read it before.
A quick and enjoyable book, I did struggle at times with the terminology in places but it was written such a long time ago. I found I could visualize the scenes and people easily which made it more enjoyable for me. I would have liked to have read more about how Scrooge's life had changed after the visitations, what he did with his life, did he make some friends, how he helped others.

It reminded somewhat of Pride and Prejudice, which makes sense as they were written around the same time.

Me too. I'd also like to know how he got to be so lonely and disliked even as a boy. That made me teary reading about him there all alone.

I was thinking about the book later and also wondered why he was disliked as a child and what made him bitter as an adult. It is on TV over Christmas, the 1951 version with Alistair Sim so maybe it will fill in a few gaps.

How old do you guys think Scrooge was in the present time? As a kid, watching the movies, I thought he was really old, LOL, but now wonder if he was more like middle aged. :headscratch:

I have the Scrooge movie with Reginald Owen from the library. It's only about 70 minutes long.

Can we talk about the spirits? I thought they were very interesting, especially Marley.
Of course we can talk about them. 👻

So were they real? Or was it all a dream? Marley said they would come over 3 nights, but when they were all gone, it was just the next morning. :dunno:

It works better for me if it is a dream. In Stave Four, Scrooge has no idea that all the people are talking about him and his death. That might very well happen in a dream, but I thought Scrooge was smart enough to get that in real life. But the author makes it difficult to tell whether it is a dream or not. Though Scrooge himself speculates about it.
