I use Walmart brand (Equate) with Shea Butter. I am allergic to steroids and can't use any of the medicated lotions. This lotion is thick without being greasy and absorbs quickly. I like it because it's not watery like most lotions.
I have also used St. Ives a lot, but I like this one better. And I do have extremely dry skin. (look where I live).

I gave SkinFix Hand repair Cream a try. It's for eczema but I do have a spot on my hand that flares up every now and then. Pros: it's super thick and hydrated my skin great for hours. Cons: It's super greasy for a long time :cringe: Good for home use, not so much for work use.

But for at work, apply the lotion on warm, slightly damp hands. After you wash them, don't dry them all the way, and be sure you allow the water to be warm, don't do a quick hand wash with only cold. I have always found that if my hands were cold, it seemed like the moisturizer would just sit on the skin longer.
I should make it a habit :paperbag: Not so easy at work if I'm washing my hands inside the facility somewhere instead of in the locker room where my locker is. I can't keep lotion in the facility. The sinks never seems to have warm water no matter which way you turn the single handle faucet:dunno: It's barely lukewarm.

If you are allowed, I would bring in my own soap to use at work and not used the probably harsh one they have there for staff. One that is NOT antibacterial helps with over drying.
Work stocks the orange Dial antibacterial soap. I can't use it because the harshness of the soap makes my hands so dry that they break out in a rash. Plus I can't stand that antiseptic, hospital smell of the soap:cringe: I have no choice but to use it if I'm washing my hands inside the facility. I keep a bottle of regular SoftSoap in my locker to use. And my own body wash instead of the mystery soap provided in the dispenser in the shower.

I use Cerave. There are several options with this line. You could use the jar at night.

When I was working, I al aye had a very intensive version with f Curel on my work station.

I also wore nitrile gloves, washing hands after each patient. What I found to help was to always use the Curel aft each hand washing and or Purell use.

I used the jar at night.

When I moved, my hands were in terrible shape— from the cardboard boxes, packing materials, etc.

It took a long time using the CeRave exczema greasy tube at night, and the jar during the day.

Udderly Smooth is my absolute favorite. I hate the feeling of lotion on my hands and Udderly Smooth doesn't have a greasy feel to it. I personally prefer the jarred body cream because I'm a terrible judge of how much lotion I should use from a squeeze bottle, so having the option of putting some back is great for me.

I think I'm kind of leaning towards a honey based lotion / cream  More natural and less likely to cause a rash. Burt's Bee is probably one of the better known brands out there. I think I'll give that a try. Or take a look at the local honey store on my way home from work.

Odd suggestion, 2 part question... Do you HAVE to wash your hands IN the facility area? And, do you have pockets? Could you, instead of washing your hands in the facility, have gentile baby wipes in your pockets then save the good hand washing for when in the locker area? I might be way out in left field but who knows...

Just catching up to this thread and I didn't read all the replies, but I have the same problem at work... I've started using nitrile gloves for all mechanical tasks, and I keep a bottle of lotion on my desk in the shop, but what really helps is applying "Bag Balm" to my hands after work, later on when I'm about to crash, yeah? It's a bit greasy at first, but it soaks into your hands and does wonders to soften up hard cracked skin... I had some Norwegian balm or ointment which was similar, but right now all I have is the Bag Balm out of Vermont, and it works very well in this high & dry desert climate. 🏜

During the day, I use Dionis' Goat Milk Lotion on my hands. At night, I use Nivea Orchid with Argan Oil and add a couple of drops of glycerin on my hands, arms, and legs, and I use a 2/3 mix of it on my feet. For my face, I use rosehip seed oil, varying how much based on the season.

I used to use something else on my hands, but after finding the Dionis I have used it. The glycerin actually soaks in faster than you would think.

I work in a biological research lab. Washing hands is a must, not just for hygenic reasons but for safety reasons too. There's a whole process for entry and exiting that I would like to avoid as much as possible. There's no bathroom inside so I only leave if I need to use the bathroom. And for lunch time.

Ooohh.. the goat milk brand  I first saw that brand on a college field trip to some goat farm that had a little country-type store. There was a sample bottle of lotion there which I tried and liked it. I didn't have enough money on me to to buy a bottle, though. I've never seen the brand since but I occasionally look at the web site.

Burt's Bees and Bag Balm have wonderful reputations, especially Bag Balm. That is one to try. It was developed for milking cows to soothe their udders.

However, I want to add that I use Aveeno body lotion. A little dab will do ya, and it absorbs rather quickly. I break out in psoriasis if my skin gets too dry, so I use it often but not every day. I also wear fingerless gloves and sleep socks at night, not to protect the skin on my hands and feet, but because they get too cold and that aggravates my arthritis.

My hands used to crack and bleed something fierce when my skin got dry, and I was allergic to all of the hypoallergenic lotions that I had tried. A dermatologist friend recommended Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser. It's technically a soap, but he told me it can be used as a lotion if you just use a teeny-tiny dab to moisten your skin. It works like a charm for me, and the best part is that it's not greasy or perfume-y.

However, when my hands get in really bad shape, I slather a generous amount of Boudreaux's Butt Paste on my hands just before I crawl into bed, and put on a pair of gloves. It's messy, it stains, and stinks a little. But my skin looks and feels so much better when I wake up, I figure it's worth a little inconvenience.

Hope you find something soon that works for you! :heartshape:

I found a little travel bottle at Staples a while ago and picked it up on a whim. It does cost a little more than what I would normally want to pay, but I actually use less than what I do with other products.

Is this why Buddy chose you? ;)

I have used the Cetaphil cleanser in the past for face washing. Oddly, it dried out my skin even with lukewarm water.

Aveeno works great on the rest of my body, just not my hands in the cold season. My nurse friend suggested Aveeno, too. Nurses have dry cracked skin with all the hand washing they do between patients.

Odd place for lotion :headscratch: I would have never thought to look at Staples for travel sized sundries. Travel tech accessories yes, but not lotion and the like.

Maybe I'll teat myself for Christmas this year and buy some Dionis lotion directly from the product web site (Dionis Goat Milk Skincare for anyone who's interested). I love goats 🐐

I have a stick of Dermatone Camphor Ice skin balm which works great for minor cracks and rough spots but it's no longer made or sold anywhere :sigh:. The company makes a similar stick balm but the ingredients are completely different and reviews are negative.
