I persuaded Mr Husband to throw out a snowboard last week. I pointed out that A. It's broken. B He has another one. C. It's the end of the season now. He finally agreed.

:yess:

I'm going to switch my winter and summer wardrobes over tomorrow and throw out as much as I can. I'm going to be brutal this time. I mean it. Absolutely brutal.

I de cluttered recently, mostly because someone from the town assessment department was supposed to come and do some state mandated inspection for property data collection. No one came and I have confirmation of the appointment, too :dunno:

I have some stuff I need to take down the street to the thrift store: a bunch of t-shirts I was given at the last job I no longer want as a reminder of that horrible place, random stuff I have never used, etc. The thrift store donates part of the proceeds to a local no-kill animal shelter :)

I have two never worn jackets from the last job that I want to donate but I'm on the fence about it. The jackets not only have the company logo on them but also the department name. I guess I'm kind of paranoid of the jacket being somehow traced back to me :paranoid: Both jackets were given to the entire department as holiday gifts years ago and a lot of people have left the company since then so there's really no way (I hope) to track down who no longer has their jacket. So do I donate the jackets or not?

I did so well today.

Threw out five or six big rubbish bags full of clothes, 3 pairs of boots and two cardboard boxes of random junk. The closet is half empty now.

It took ages and I had a moment where I thought it might be better just to burn the house down, but I ate one of Mr Husband's Mountain Climber energy bars and that got me through.

The cats helped. I'd made a pile of maybe-maybe not clothes and Hiro peed on it, so that made it maybe not for sure.

:thanks:

He's right though. It was all old dresses and skirts, some of them going back to my college days. Just because I can still get into them it doesn't mean I should.

If I'm feeling very brave I might tackle the hell mouth storage space under the stairs later this week.

The urge has been building up for a while but losing a tool I really needed pushed me over the edge and I started cleaning out the basement. Went through every shelf, drawer, closet and storage bin today and now I have a massive pile in the middle of the room of stuff to either trash or donate. I will sort through the pile in the next few days and bag and box things up.

Today I went through my closet and collected about 10 bags of stuff to donate and then organized my storage boxes better. I feel like some weight has been lifted.

I think we've all been there.

I just took a carload of donations to our local VNA thrift store. There are many carloads to go. I need to really go through my stuff and get rid of what I don't use.

Went down early this morning to tackle the huge pile of discards from yesterday’s basement cleaning. Rested and with a couple cups of coffee in me it was so much easier to figure out what was worth donating and what should rightfully go to the trash. All that is left is to move the trash pile to the garage to fit into the trash can as there is room and to start Goodwill runs. To maximize getting those great 25% off coupons for donating, I will make three or four trips in the next week.

I'm jealous of your decluttering. I've been too busy with other things to make much progress lately.

I went through a drawer and saw I had 8 swimsuits. I never even put one on once last year. So I kept 2 and the rest are donated to the store my shelter runs.

Keep trying.

The garbage cans are full, the metal recyclers are happy, and there's compost to feed the earth.

I get fed up of not being able to close my cosmetic case so threw away some old eye make-up yesterday. I probably should have donated it to a museum, some of those eye shadows dated back to the Byzantine era.

And don’t you feel like you actually have more makeup when you get rid of the stuff you will never use again and can actually see the ones you will use.

It's hard to declutter these days. If you want to throw stuff away, you have to sort it, and there's only certain days that you can take certain things to the dump. It's so complicated, I don't know where to start.

Just grit your teeth and do it! Don't tackle like a whole basement, etc, just do one small section at a time. I declutter one section at a time. My dad died a few years ago and mom went into assisted living. It took me and my husband WEEKS of dring 150 miles round trip every day to sort out and pack everything for an auction. (you find out how helpful your same town brothers and sister are, absolutely worthless!) Do you want your kids, or relatives to go through all that?! Do you want someone else deciding what to keep and what to get rid of in case you get incapacitated? It WILL appen some day, have mercy!

It doesn’t need to be complicated - usually making a keep and a toss pile will get you a good ways. When I did my basement last Spring, a huge job, my toss pile was huge so when I was ready to tackle it I sorted it into what could be bagged and go into the trash and what needed special haul away or could be donated. I had so many trash bags, it took me maybe four weeks to actually fit everything into the trash .
