I don't know for sure - if the smell of food is consistently recent, I think that's enticement enough to keep them coming back. But if there's a way you can figure out how to leave something Treasure would find - a piece or two of a treat, that should be enough to help ensure returning felines.

So like the cat treats like Temptations or something? Or can they even smell that? And is it a good sign that Treasure is here and shows no sign of grieving since she's Shaman's constant companion? Treasure just left again though. This is very nerve wracking.

Temptations or similar is what I was thinking of - they can smell it. I don't know if this will work out but you could try.

yes, definitely.
Thank you. Hopefully they return. I really need to find a solution to the feeding without Mom throwing constant fits over it.

Ugh she just hissed at me in fight mode because of no food. I fear she'll leave for good now :(

I actually thought of that earlier today, I wonder if they do.

Can you try some chamomile tea, with honey? It's gently relaxing. There are a couple other things you could look into, there's Holy Basil and L-Tryptophan.

This are a couple of posts by @les26
"I try to deal with the stress with Holy Basil and vitamins and sleep and prayer and exercise"

"I have found that Holy Basil helps you deal with the stress, L-Tryptophan is a natural relaxer and mood improver, exercise, even taking walks helps, drinking a lot of water, eating fruits and vegetables and not junk food and sugar helps, sleep and rest, breathing exercises, I breath in from my stomach first not lungs first but the stomach then the lungs for 5 seconds, hold for 5 seconds the blow out through the mouth for 5 seconds about 6-10 times in a row helps."

Maybe I need to stop reading but are peonies bad for cats? I never saw any of these cats eat it and my Mom refuses to have the bush cut down. This is the kind of situation I deal with on a daily basis.

The info I'm seeing says that in large amounts peonies are toxic, but that the amount that a cat would have to eat makes really serious consequences somewhat unlikely.
As you might have read, there could be diahrrea (I never get that spelled right) or vomiting, or depression.
Hopefully your cats never start :vibes: :crossfingers:

At the moment they don't seem interested but then the peonies here just started to grow. Maybe there's a cat safe product I can sprinkle around it to deter them? Which I doubt of course because of their curiosity. Shaman is back patiently this time waiting to eat. Lunch is delayed because of Mom being down here. I just get a schedule down and then Mom is here on her usual tirades and throws the schedule out of whack. I just looked and lunch is delayed by an hour. This is a very sad situation :(

See this is an almost every day issue with my Mom. I know I need a timed feeder but then Shaman has only one tooth and refuses to touch dry food. I don't know if it's because she can't chew or because she's just being picky.

They survived this long with peonies all over the neighborhood :). Peonies aren't super toxic like lilies are, only mildly toxic and only if they eat the flowers, roots, or seeds (and really, are cats going to be munching on peony flowers? I don'tthink so). They'll be fine.

Oh jeepers. How did Shaman survive out there before I started feeding her. She ran off scared from a baby squirrel as she had same body language she shows when Shadow shows up. lol

Just fyi:
Try not to worry so much when a cat doesn't show up for food
They can survive quite well for a few days without food, they probably don't go that long without food, just easing your mind that they are ok!
I would try that chamomile tea advise previously, the stress makes things worst!!
I know, I went through extreme stress when I TNR'd the cats on my street,
I made it worst by being stressed, and everything worked out ok!
Cats pick up on stress, I was doing a disservice to my Feral Walli that I have in the house when I was stressed, I try not to worry about her and everything goes a lot smoother!!!

I was just thinking, are there timed feeders that work for wet food? I forget what all you're feeding but maybe you could look into something like that, depending on whether it works for your situation.

lol hang in there!

I can check and see. I really need to start doing a lot of surveys to get those feeders. But that would be perfect in this situation. I'm just confused as I read that cats can get by fine without their teeth eating dry.

I usually mix the dry with the wet food. I did get fresh paws from Prime Now but my little usb mini fridge is not big enough to store all of that stuff. Shaman doesn't seem bothered by leftovers or col food. One of the few things she isn't picky about lol

you're lucky - my boy won't touch anything like that no matter how much I tell him it's the same thing LOL :argue:

In her case she might be one of those rare felines that doesn't really like kibble, or maybe she doesn't like the size of the pieces?
