It’s just all brown bare dirt right now but this is what it looked like last July. I had this great retaining wall put in about eight years ago. A man who does this work “on the side” put it in in two days, no input from me except I wanted two levels and a curve to it. Truly an artist at what he does.

I bought a few more plants yesterday. I was a little disappointed with the selection even at Lowes. I wonder if the weather around the country is affecting that. We've had a sort of early spring while lots of people are still getting snow showers.

It's cool and gloomy today but I'm heading out to get my tomatoes in the ground. I bought that corn-based weed block for my garden again so that has to go down first.

Show us your garden at its best, even if it's last year.

Our world is a garden, we should all tend it . . . . .

I like palms but other plants are great too.

Here’s a Leptospermum “Tea Tree” “Ruby Glow.” It’s about 12 feet or 4 m tall.

I went to another garden centre today, and they had quite a few perennials. I didn't buy anything, this time. ;)

Here's my day lily bed. It's showing life now. Still have to get the froggie ornaments out. And get some more solar lights.

I just love Day lilies! Beautiful long lasting blooms, huge range of colors, they can thrive in all kinds of soil and rabbits aren’t interested in them.

I like them too, and plan to buy some more this year. I have too many yellows right now, which of course no one can tell from the picture I posted.

They'll start blooming probably late June/early July, and go into August.

There's some reblooming varieties now, which I'd like to buy.

I have orange Daylilies on the side of my house. They bloom late June here but don't last all season. I love when I find them filling roadside ditches; so pretty! I love that they are easy care.

I got my tomatoes in and the weed block with cedar mulch around them. Then I potted a bunch of flowers yesterday. It's hot today so I'm glad it's done. But I do need to get more potting soil today. I think I need to be patient but I have a list going of what flowers I still need.

Yep lots of ditch lilies. Whatever I have came from my Grandmother's house originally. I read they can be invasive!

I went out for soil and came back with more plants instead. I found a bunch of the flowers I was looking for; but there was no one to help load the soil in my car. And the weather isn't cooperating now either. I can have DH help me get soil on Saturday. They will be fine till then. :) I need more mulch anyway.

Our daffodils and tulips are (finally) blooming, and everything else shows signs of activity. We also finally got 2 days of decent weather, so I have been working up the new planting bed to get it ready for occupancy. We hit a few growers today, and I got my 2 tomato plants- one, a 'sweet million', and the other a 'sweet 100', as well as a 'Goldsturm' black-eyed Susan, and a 'Cheyenne Spirit' coneflower. It's a start, anyway.

I got my Shasta daisies, peppers, tomatoes, squash, and my herbs in the ground. Waiting for the other perennials to get big enough to plant (Started from seed). Went to my favorite nursey yesterday and they had an abutilon. I have been looking for it for several years. Guess what I brought home!:yess:
I have a HUGE rose of Sharon at the corner of the house that I want to take out - just have to figure out how to do it since it is large. I hate it! It is beautiful when in bloom, but throws seeds everywhere and leafs out so late (they all do) that it still looks like I have this huge dead plant on the corner. I want a weeping evergreen there.
My lilacs will be blooming any day. I can't wait to cut some for the house. Today we have rain in the forecast, which is why I killed myself planting yesterday. I guess today will be house cleaning day. :sigh: I would rather be playing in the yard.

My lilacs are already done.
Mine are still a few weeks from blooming.

But I now have all my flowers potted. I counted...I'm up to 22. :paperbag:
You've been busy!

Interesting that your daffodils and tulips bloom at the same time. My tulips are always a bit later.

Not really. I grew them once, but they eventually died, and I never replaced them. They also grow these odd flowers, just before they die, which I'm not sure if I like or not.

Hmmm.... my first thought was clematis, but not sure how much sunlight they need.

Can't say that I have. LOL. Your plants/garden sounds lovely. It must be wonderful to be able to grow your own veggies year round.
Clemantis are weird=the plant itself has to get at least 4 hours of sun-but the base in the dirt has to be shaded...if that makes sense. I have several growing-I have one that is mostly in the shade and gets maybe 3 hours sunlight and then maybe 2 hours in late evening, it does just fine. The thing to do is put something in front to keep the base in shade. it likes cool roots but sun/shade for the plant. Average watering. It likes composty soil. There is one spot that I am always loosing clemantis because the base gets too hot from the sun-despite my putting 6 inches of bark mulch in front of base. This year will put a huge pot of flowers in front to see if this works.

I don't deal with veggies. Too picky and too many bugs/fungus always get them. I have 2 or 3 plants of tomatoes though. The rest are annuals and perennials.

I have to catch up with this thread=I took on a huge project that I will post in next post..I must be insane. :thud:

I have one clematis that puts out literaly hundreds of small, dark purple, bell-shaped flowers. It grows so vigorously that I have to prune it back several times each season, but it will put out blooms all season long. I had 2 others in the same area that did all right for the first few years, then just did nothing, so I ripped them out, to be replaced sooner or later.

Well I came up with this idea to buy plug plants on ebay-I did this once a decade ago-because the cheap plants were no longer available. We had 3 locations that used to sell plants for like $2. Now those days are gone..they get $5 a piece. I just can't justify that since I end up spending way too much.

SOOOOooo I have several people at work that said they would be interested in buying some of these plants since the lots are for 30+ plants-I only want 12. So then I said well I could get 2 different flowers, tomatoes and marigolds..so I bought 6 or 7? different plants-the tray is like 12" long but some are 50 plants. I got the pots and tags on ebay/Amazon, Got some Plywood for free from work that would have been thrown out, bought saw horses second hand for $20. I cut one board to fit over my master bathroom garden tub-I NEVER use it-hate bath-my house plants live in the tub...so yesterday I cleaned off the boards of dust from work, fit the board over the tub-fits perfect, there's a huge 4 x 4 sky light over it-they will get plenty of sun but not direct sun.

Then I was having anxiety of what the hell am I going to do with several hundred plants? So Jon says=just take them to the Flea market if they don't sell at work...good thing I still kept the truck (I was ready to get rid of it to get a car-glad I didn't). So this past weekend was the last weekend to buy these plants-I should have bought this other tray I wanted-they were a unique color-but for now-we shall see how this project goes.

I got 3 color wave petunias
Blue (looks like deep purple)
Purple (looks like deep dark pink)
Yellow

3 varieties of tomatoes
Mountain
Summertime
Roma

Then these funky Zinnias Zahara Starburst that claim good for drought hot areas.

So depending on how many I can get rid of- I was thinking about doing this next year-but don't really have room to do many plants unless I get Jon to build me a horse shoe shelving thing around the garden tub. Then I could turn the master bathroom into my indoor greenhouse. Rip out the carpet in here and put linoleum.

I decided to do this because the good colors always sell out by mid April-I still had snow at this point. In fact we got a hard frost last week so it's too early to plant..anyways I figured I would be able to get all the flowers I need and sell the rest...everyone is always looking for tomatoes and I don't like the plants at big box stores-they don't seem to be a deep green as the ones grown at smaller independent garden centers..and most of those big box plants are grown out in the midwest in greenhouses-so not really hardened off until they come to the store and they put them out in the open air garden center.

I must be insane but heck I finally got the colors I wanted and know I will have plenty ideas to plant the annuals..I also invested in a rain barrel and putting it by the gutter that always dumps tons of water when it rains..I will need all the help I can get in regards to water because town water is stupid expensive. Here's hoping I sell em all so I don't need too much water. And do the rain dance every 4 days-that would be perfect!!
