No, but I do not shop at Giant too much. I think they are creepy and would rather the money go towards a human with a working.
Hi Muffy! Great to see a fellow Marylander on here! I'm over in Carroll County with 2 kitties, how 'bout you hon?

Hi,

I am over here, in Southern Maryland. Been living in this part of Maryland all of my life. I have 1 kittie. I am in the early stages of dementia and have a leaky bladder so they better not let one of those things turn the corner on me or someone will have some cleaning up to do.

I worked at a grocery store for 5 years. I'd say there were probably less than 50 spills in those years when I was at the store. The robot probably cost more to make than the cashiers make in a year.

They tested thee out in a few of the Stop and Shops near me but I never ran into one. At the time they said they could also notify employees when an item was out of stock.

We only have Publix, Kroger and a few independents. I agree that the cost is too much to just alert employees to spills. I am guessing they are recording to catch shoplifters which is a huge problem in all stores.

I think the money could be better spent to pay humans who could not only see the problem but fix it and do other useful things when not cleaning up spills.

If my local Kroger got those things I would complain. Wouldn't do any good at that point, but I would still talk to the manager.

BTW - Wal Mart still has greeters. But their main job is to check receipts especially if you have a big bag of pet food or 24 rolls of TP, that is not bagged, at least around here.

A cashier at my local Walmart said they were going to be getting robots to keep the shelves stocked. I know that in the past year they took out half of the registers and replaced them with those self checkouts. I'm wondering if in a few years the only humans in the store will be the shoppers!

I can't see anything going wrong with the robots stocking Wal*Mart shelves. Not one teeny, tiny, little thing.

  1. Do you have a robot at YOUR grocery store?
  2. What do you think of grocery robots? Creepy? Helpful? :dunno:
  3. What would you rather see the money go towards?
First off I found your post very entertaining:)

No, we don't have a robot at any of the stores we go to. That includes Whole Foods, Wegmans etc.
I think they are helpful, but I worry that is taking work away from staff. If they are still employing the same number of people- then it's ok.
I'd rather the money go to employees frankly.

However, I wouldn't mind one of these in my home. With six cats and a messy husband it wouldn't be awful to have a mess detector- spilled food, cat mess etc.

I thought so. I could tell from the price stickers on the battery display  I have not seen robots in stores around here, not even in the city.

It was on our local news that they're putting a "Marty" in a Giant store in eastern PA. Eventually all Giant stores will have a Marty.

i'm wondering if at least part of what those robots are doing might be to 'collect marketing (type) data', on customers choices of items they purchase. collecting marketing data on consumers is common these days. :nono:

I've been in the produce department when he is patrolling and its really irritating. He stops at every speck he sees on the floor and an announcement comes over the stores PA system. He doesn't move on until a worker rests him. The announcement will keep repeating also. It is WAY too sensitive for things it sees on the floor.
