So much good news here today!

Semi feral cats begging to be petted, delicious breakfasts, Akita dogs getting a pedicure, older people falling in love, and (my personal favourite) Banjo and Whistle reunited again.

:bliss:

It was 35C here an hour ago, but we've just had a thunder storm and the temperature has dropped to 28C. Suddenly I'm surrounded by soggy cats wanting their dinner.

:wavey:

Jcatbird Jcatbird What a beautiful pic! And so glad and relieved for you and your sweet kittens!
micknsnicks2mom micknsnicks2mom Hello! I don't believe we've "met" here on TCS but I am a jigsaw puzzle freak (as well as a cat freak, but that goes without saying here on TCS, doesn't it?) Do you work on a site? I have one that I visit daily, not to create but to play. It's therapeutic for me, too, after all the stress of the day -- a PAWSitive way to relax!

Our promised cold front just moved through a few moments ago - eight degree drop in temperature in only a couple of minutes. As the wind picked up, it was actually possible to watch the mercury drop perceptibly in the glass.

@Shane Kent - on its present track, it looks like you'll drop from the nineties into the seventies right about six o'clock.

Oh lordy , that's too funny, that caught me just right and I burst out laughing

I just received the most important and fantastic news!! Earlier this spring while on a wandering drive out on the edge of the eastern plains, I saw a borrowing owl in a field. So, I got ahold of a state fish and game representative. Last I knew she was having a heck of a time finding the actual farmer who works the land (not just the owner. Farming is apparently more complicated in some situations!)
I stopped going out there and didn't keep up with the f&g rep. I was always coming back sad because although I couldn't tell, it looked like they were in trouble, from trespassers, heavy equipment etc.

The farmer has been notified, he's happy about the birds (love that!), AND there are 4 adults and 5 babies!!!!
Strike up the band and celebrate for a protected- status species!! :yess:

It's a burrowing owl, it does not borrow money or anything else :flail:but nests underground in burrows that have been made by prairie dogs or ground squirrels or other small mammals. They have long legs and white "eyebrows" and are not nocturnal like other owls. They are among the smallest owls and are really cute:hyper:. They live in loose colonies and have 3 to 12 eggs in a clutch which they incubate in 28 days, 2 weeks after hatching they come out of the nest and start to hunt insects, after 45 days they fly well. So you were lucky to spot them and to make sure they were not disturbed.

Furballsmom Furballsmom That is fantastic news about the owl family! I have worked in preservation and it is such a tough battle. Yay! Love that farmer and all the folks who work to keep little guys like that here. Very positive news indeed! As a kid my Uncle was involved with such things. I raised a Baby Screech owl for release for him. Although not endangered it had been a rescue. It was the most amazing little creature to watch. They do this interesting little dance before they eat. Almost as though they are hypnotizing their food. Of course the food was not feeling at that point. His name was Plato and he made wonderful sounds at night. I will say though, spend the night girlfriends were few and far between! Lol

Jcatbird Jcatbird --So happy that Whistle & Banjo are back together and that she remembers him again. I was scared that she forgot him for good. :cheerleader:
Furballsmom Furballsmom --Cool story about the owls. I don't think I've ever seen one.
@Shane Kent --Any new pics of your furkids? I like your glamour shots. I wish I could take as good photos as you.
My positive for the day is we picked some broccoli from the garden and it was delicious, not bitter at all. I'm thinking of making some type of casserole with it, with lotsa cheese because that's the only thing I cook that turns out edible. :D

I live very close to a farm stand and visited it today on my way home from work. It was interesting to look at the signs, they tell of the variety and price, but today, I noticed most had a special message on them, they read "Our Own"!

Almost six different lettuces, four cucumber varieties, five Summer squash offerings. "Their Own" peaches, apricots, nectarines, plums, ground cherries, blueberries, blackberries, herbs, tomatoes and this is only the beginning!:tree:

I left with some delicious sweet corn and a little basket of red currants. They also offer fruits like apples and peaches in totes for a special price, fruits that are not the perfect shape or have blemishes. These fruits are great for baking and I am thinking I would like to go back on my day off and if there are the "second" peaches, I would love to make a peach cobbler!

Tonight I am off from work so I get to do one of my favorite things - stay home and relax and play with Speedy!:catrub:

Speedy and I wish a wonderful evening to all.

...with the cats...
tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 -- hi there! :wave3: it's nice to 'meet' you!

i use a jigsaw puzzle software, which is on my computer, and though the puzzles i create are usually using photos or pictures found online, i work on the puzzles offline. i really enjoy jigsaw puzzles, and find them relaxing as well as (i believe) they help to keep my mind 'sharp'.

we got rain here this afternoon! :yess: the temp has dropped at least 10 degrees from the high today.

I got to see my best friend today! :bunnydance: And my godson. For the first time in just over a year. She moved far away on me. Her in-laws and sister surprised her with plane tickets to come visit with the kids. Her husband had to stay behind to work and take care of the dogs. Her teenage daughter is now WAY taller than me. I think she's even taller than her dad now.

Oh, that's funny - when I'm typing on my phone, anything can happen LOL

They are extremely cute!! As you mentioned, this little group was all mixed in with some prairie dogs. If I remember right, I think it was a P-dog that caught my eye, then I saw one of the owls flying low to the ground between a couple of mounds. I literally could NOT believe my eyes at first!!

@jcat, that photo of those two cats is one of the loveliest moments - it made my heart sing!!

Yumminess; broccoli, peach cobbler :yummy: There's a new farmers market down the street, I might have to wander over one of these days and take a look :)

Now that I'm on the desktop, here are photos that the Fish&Game lady sent to me today ;) ; You can see the long legs, and even the white eyebrows which I didn't have any idea to look for. How fun is that?!

Well, Furballsmom Furballsmom -- I'd say the proof is in the pix. That owl is BORROWING some space in a P-dog burrow, wouldn't you say? *Or maybe "liberating" is a better definition. My mom always preferred that one.*

And yes, R raysmyheart -- I'd say you've got pretty much all you need to be eating very well, wouldn't you? Sounds WONDERFUL! Even though I did just get back from a trip to the store and a load-up on fresh produce, there's nothing like getting them fresh-picked. Enjoy!

micknsnicks2mom micknsnicks2mom That sounds amazing! I use jigsawplanet.com -- lots of great puzzles on there including a lot of cat ones, animal ones, and nature ones. Since I found it, I don't think I've missed one day.

LOL, yay mom!

My positive for this post is that the Rockies are tied at zero in the fifth inning. Against the Pirates who aren't doing that well, but since the Rockies have a bad tennis-type habit of playing to the same level as their opponent (I think it's tennis ?) I'll take it and keep my fingers crossed

We're down 18 degrees from our afternoon high of 92º today (tying the all time record for this date), to 74º, and in @Shane Kent country, the cold front had already rolled though, dropping Ottawa and Cottage Country from 90º to 72º.

Even better news - the long range forecasts all appear as though the northeast is returning to its seasonal weather pattern, with highs generally around 80º from here on in, and lows in the mid-sixties for the first half of the month, and back to the mid-fifties by August's end. Down in the bullpen, you can almost hear Autumn warming up.

On my road trip we were cruising along the highway and I saw a billboard. I knew the message referred to a Florida special, orange juice, but I snapped a picture of it to post here. I am sending it out to all who are here now or might be away. I send positive love your way and in case you need one....... read the message. Sorry it’s blurry but it was taken from a moving car. Hugs sent!

Honeybee on my lap, music playing in background
A pawsitive of today was stopping at a self service farm stand to get some veggies. Got a bell pepper and 2 yellow zucchinis. There's another stand around this camp that has a large variety of things but I can't remember which road it's on. Probably take a ride on Wednesday to look for it. I made a big batch of greek pasta salad so need to eat that up before buying more veggies. Also need to look for farm fresh eggs to make my signature omelets with. I use 5 to 6 eggs in each one and we like them burnt with crispies from cooking in butter and of course cheese and variety of veggies.

The heat is oppressive and I can't sleep when it's like this. Got the ac going in main room but it is only set at 77 because Jon doesn't like it cold. And I suspect that the cats don't like it cold either.

On the way up to camp they shared the dog cage together. Pumps gave Honeybee a few licks on her head and didn't growl at her either. Then Honeybee made a pest of herself by laying on top of Pumps for half an hour. The look on Pumps face was hysterical. It was, "I don't like it but if I move she may bite me so I will sit really still." expression.

I should have gotten some photos but of course I forgot to. They are enjoying camp and finally both ate some food tonight. We went to tractor supply for a new bag of food as they refused their food we brought. And got a airtight bucket to keep fresh. The ziplock bags are not enough in this oppressive humidity. They are snoozing in here with me and they look happy

This was before I turned on ac at 9pm. It was 85 in here. Yuck.

Pumps begging for treats. Or food. Or both.

@jcat, thank you for thinking of everybody - you are a peach of a person!!
Furballsmom Furballsmom - "A peach of a person?" A Georgiaism after a Florida orange juice post from a Georgie Girl?

;)

We have rain here (finally!) and we're just about to slip down into the sixties once more. Weather dot com now shows seven out of eight days being rain days. Bring it on!
