DH and I went to Petsmart today to look for a specific cat scratcher. Although we found it I didn't like the quality and didn't think it would work for Carleton. But the pawsitive part of going was talking to a very nice woman we met who told us she found a 6 wk. old male kitten in the parking lot where she worked and is nursing him back to health. We talked and shared cat stories for an hour. It's heartwarming to meet fellow cat aficionados. :happycat:

A co-worker of mine lost her cat last year and was just devastated by his passing. May he RIP. :rbheart::rbheart:

The pawsitive is that she told me on the Friday before Easter that she has been without a cat in her life for long enough and she was going to the shelter the next day to change that. I saw her on Friday and she adopted a kitten. She is so happy with her new sweetie. I know her boy is watching them bond with a smile. He would never want his beloved mom to be unhappy or lonely. Another cat in a very loving home. :woohoo:

Kat0121 Kat0121 - This is one of the most Heartwarming posts I've seen here on TCS; thanks for sharing it with us!

Despite being faintly chilly here, it's wonderfully sunny and clear, and a fine day to spend simply walking in the woods. Here's hoping that wherever you are, the weather coöperates with your Sunday plans!

@tinydestroyer Personally, I LOVE the burgundy shades! But hope you find something that makes you happy and is close to your longtime "natural" (hey, after that many years, it is natural IMHO!) shade. There are so many great-looking colors out now! (And I've tried so many of them! LOL)
Kat0121 Kat0121 What a wonderful "tail"! It's so true -- our beloveds who are "up there watchin'" absolutely want us to share the love with someone else in need, as they once were when they came to us. That, to me, is the greatest tribute we can pay to our beloveds. Love never ends, and is never replaced, but needs to be shared, and the more love we share, the greater blessings we build up! I do believe that.

I'm so happy about my garden although not everything has come up and some will never come up. Some of the old seeds sprouted and some didn't so I got new ones and planted those today. Since some of the onion seeds didn't come up I got some red and some white onion sets (those are tiny onions that one can plant and it will take less time for them to turn into big balls or one can pull them as green onions) and I planted those. More of the pole beans have come up and also radishes, a few carrots and some beets. Some of the seeds will take another week, if they are not up by then I will assume that the seeds were too old. I already have new seeds for those. One of the rhubarb has pushed up a leaf, yippee! Here some pics from my garden today. This pic shows 5 different peppers and one zucchini with a border of radishes. Under the cover is corn, I have to cover it for a few weeks or the crows will pull up the seedlings.

There is a place here in the community where somebody had planted two wisterias in the middle of the lawn and trained them into 2 small trees. Both of them already have flowers and leaves, so pretty. These little trees are at least 10 years old, trying hard to stay a vine but keep being pruned so it has made a trunk but needs 2 poles to stay upright. See picture below.
040818 011.JPG

I took an extra turn on my trip home from the garden just to look at them and take a picture and while I was there Security had these 3 youngish women, tattooed every piece of skin that showed and it was a lot, who obviously did not belong here (remember that this is an age-restricted community and on Sunday there are unlikely house cleaners about and none of them looked like a care-giver) up against the Security car and then the City cops came, looks like they were up to no good and Security called for backup. I just kept going, it's none of my business.
That is usually as much excitement as we get here although we do have theft and the occasional murder-suicide of some really old couple where one of them is really sick and the other can't deal with it anymore so they exit together. That is sad but understandable.
Median age here is 78 but that is because we have quite a few centenarians here, one old lady is 108 and she still goes to all the dances and usually has two partners with her dancing at the same time! Yeah, for some old people! One has to be 50 to live here and there are quite a few here who are that young as real estate is quite reasonable compared to other places in SoCal.

Although none of my kitties is buddy-buddy with any other cat here they do tolerate each other. They sleep on my bed at night but all in a different place. Now I found Panthera and Chamouti, my two boys, on the sofa, touching each other although I wonder if they knew that.

This is where the grapevine first leafed out. I cut it down to a stump every year or it would be all over the place. I am planning on building a decent arbor this year, maybe.

So far this day has been great. I feel great so I will baby my orchids with fresh water and fertilizer, get comfy on the sofa with kitties and watch a movie, I've been watching a few old movies I have lately like "When Harry Met Sally" and "Sleepless in Seattle", those movies never loose their appeal and they make you feel good too. Maybe I'll veg out with some Chinese costume movies like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" or "Farewell, My Concubine" or "Raise the Red Lantern". There are some Chinese romantic comedies too like "The Wedding Banquet" or "Eat Drink Man Woman" which I enjoy a lot. I don't mind subtitles, I watch lots of foreign movies on Netflix. Yeah, sounds like a plan.

I love ALL of those movies so much! International films are just about the only ones I watch as they are still of high quality and (some) don't focus on things I find very offensive in domestic society. And I am a devoted fan of Ang Lee. Have you seen Wang Kar-Wai's films? He is wonderful, too, I think. Some film services list him as Kar-Wai Wang instead (in western order).
Your garden is amazing! and I must say I especially love your pale pink geraniums.
Awww, Panthera and Chamouti! SO sweet together and so beautiful!

segelkatt segelkatt - Great pictures; nice to see that you had a chance to work in the garden today. Panthera and Chamouti seem to 'tolerate' one another pretty well, I'd say.

Still cool here, but with plenty of sunshine to make the day more pleasant. Walking back from the barn, I caught this Downy Woodpecker at one of the "tailrest" feeders intended for the big Pileated Woodpeckers who haven't yet returned, paying no attention to the passing Human:

Hi again everyone!

segelkatt segelkatt what an attractive garden! Here's hoping the rains don't overdo it for you!

1CatOverTheLine 1CatOverTheLine awww, they're such darling little things we've got one in the neighborhood as well, but THAT one ducks around to the other side of the tree whenever it sees me peeking out the window at him/her, and then peeks back at me, it's the funniest thing :p

I don't believe I posted about this below before, I've been meaning to for a couple weeks, did a search and didn't find anything in my previous posts in this thread.

I've had the very pleasant opportunity twice now lately to help people with their cats. The second one was mostly just moral support - a mom with two young boys, one of which had been wanting a cat. So, she came across a situation where a cat had been with a family's dad who wasn't doing a good job of taking care of it, then the family took the cat but weren't doing much better, so she stepped in. She and her boys were in the store looking for more food, and we talked a bit and in the process she found a big bag of Nature's Variety grain free, and then moved off to the canned products. I gave her son a big thumbs up when she described that he was the one who'd been wanting a cat ;)
His smile just about lit up the store :cloud9:

The other was a grocery store employee whose mom's cat was having eating troubles. I steered her towards no onion/no garlic baby food, canned kitten food and a vet visit (those seemed like the easiest things she'd remember by the time she got to talk to her mom again). :hugs:

I recall reading that this site's owner wanted to pay it forward by starting TCS. I feel very much the same. When a person can make a difference in a cat's life even if it's simply telling a young boy "he really did good!" and keeping his mom talking long enough that she spotted the bigger bag and felt happy about that, it's a very good thing.

Furballsmom Furballsmom Nice way to pay it forward and help two different cat people

Once a year DH and I go to the small shelter where we adopted Carleton to make a donation. This afternoon we made our annual visit. The owner couldn't have been happier to see us and not because of our check. She told us she was retiring in two years and not taking in anymore animals, only trying to find homes for the 20 that are presently there. She said we could just bring in household/cleaning supplies, e.g. paper towels, newspaper, detergent, etc. But we insisted on making a donation and said we would be back at a later date with some cleaning supplies. She loves seeing pics of Carleton and told us she was so happy he found a home with us. That made our day! :heartshape:

Hi again everyone!

segelkatt segelkatt what an attractive garden! Here's hoping the rains don't overdo it for you!

They say we won't get much of that threatening rain here, it will mostly be to the north of here and then go east so we won't get any then either. I'm here south of L.A. and many times we only get a sprinkle of what elsewhere is a flood. It's supposed to get quite warm in the next few days with temps pushing 90! That should make all those seeds happy with the moisture they get with my daily watering and make them germinate and grow. I put a lot of work into the garden this spring after my hiatus over the winter due to illness. So now I'm happy to just be in the garden even when I don't do much, just sort of enjoying knowing that things are growing again and that I am well enough to do the work that does need to be done. Over the many years that I have been gardening, about 30 or so, before that I would kill even ivy, I have learned how to keep the weeds out of my garden which is the biggest gripe most people have, and to do as little as possible, plants will do just fine without us constantly messing with them.

and here's another completely marvelous thing, --nine times out of ten, I'll think to say something but won't have it worded out, or typed out, and someone comes along and says EXACTLY what I was actually thinking.

segelkatt segelkatt , "temps pushing 90! That should make all those seeds happy with the moisture they get with my daily watering and make them germinate and grow. This is wonderful that you're able to do it, and I'm so very glad for you!

I will check out a few of Wang Kar-Wai's movies, sorry I had not heard of him but I also like Ang Lee.
Since I live in an apartment I also have potted plants in front of my door in the breezeway, there I have bright red and screaming pink geraniums besides just green potted plants. My neighbors enjoy them and I have noticed that there are few more people who have put plants in front of their doors also. It just took one person to start it.

I'm a lifelong geranium lover, partly because my best friend's mom loved them. I only have one color of geraniums now, but I have some pictures of different ones in the house. They always make me think of my friend's mom.

This story came up on my Twitter a little while ago. I love it. Rescues can happen anywhere. :yess:

Father And Son Camping Trip Turns Into A Rescue

"“It’s been a week now and they love it here. My family has decided we are keeping all of them,” Michael said."

Four cats is a very good start. Bravo, Michael and Family!

Four of my eleven tonight - clearly glad they have a home third dinner. Clockwise from, "holy cow, is that thing a cat?" Bob, Peanut, Moo Shu and White Tip.

Norachan Norachan I posted the party pictures over in the birthday thread and made another thread to be mushy in, so I probably won't repost anything here.
I saw! She looks like she's having a very happy birthday.

I've been MIA this weekend because my hair dye supplier discontinued my color, and against my better judgement I tried their suggested replacement color, which was nothing like the right one.
Oh no! That's a shame, but I bet the darker colour looks pretty too. You just have to get used to it.

My hair is a dark magenta colour at the moment. Not natural looking at all, but the bright colours cheer me up.

:p

So many positive posts here! Kat0121 Kat0121 That's the best story I've heard in a long time. What a lucky find.

:goodluck:

I'm really busy at work right now, so I only have time to read through everyone else's good news. I'm lucky to have something so uplifting to read on my breaks.

OK, back to work

T
Kat0121 Kat0121 , this rescue story was just wonderful! How wonderful Mother cat could count on Michael!

It is a little chilly here in Massachusetts today and the sky is once again a very clear, wonderful blue! Speedy will be glad to see her friends at the bird feeder today, that is, once she gets up! She likes to sleep late sometimes!

Black squirrels are pretty rare around here, and I saw not one, but two today!
jcat jcat - We haven't any black squirrels here, but Niagara Falls - and especially the park itself - is now overrun with them, as they're sufficiently aggressive to push out the grey and red squirrels from their former territories, although many of their offspring, like Piebald Squirrels:

"piebald squirrel" - Google Search

and cross squirrels:

are very pretty, and seem to tolerate the common grey squirrels well enough.

It's a lovely day here, albeit a bit chilly, and perfect for sharpening and re-mulching the front Forsythia bed before the flowers pop out, rendering it impossible. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a nectarine!
