I got my furbaby at a shelter and they told me he was a Norwegian Forest Cat. He's 4 years old (approx.) and I'm doubting what his breed is... he's seems to a little runt compared to an adult male NFC. He look to at least be a mix but I can't tell. Thoughts? I'm crazy enough to think about doing a cat DNA test...

So far, I can tell that he is one of the most beautiful cats that I have ever seen.
Can you tell us a little bit more about him? Weight, for how long have you had him, his name, etc... Gigant breeds grow for about 4 years, so he might be still growing.

StefanZ StefanZ and abyeb abyeb what do you think? I would expect a more triangular face for a NFC, or a more "solid" face for a Siberian, but since we are talking about a cross, It would be possible.

1CatOverTheLine 1CatOverTheLine just look at this beauty :)

No morwegian but may perhaps be compared to a siberian. Interesting enough at this moment we do have his mirror in another tread running now. Although the other is a tuxedo for real. It seems the real longhairs blacks can get looks almost as a bicolor but yours isnt. He is solid (!) black and a true stunning beautie.

German longhair?

Thank you! Yes, Cricket (his name) has a black smoke-type coloring. I've had him about a year and half, got him when he was 2.5. He came from a home where his energy and curiosity were too much for an elderly owner, so lucky me. Last time he went to the doctor he was approaching 17/18 pounds... when I got him he was 14.

Hmm... interesting take. I didn't even consider Siberian, which seems more likely now that I think about it. Curious to check out the other thread...

He’s very striking! I agree, he is a very nice comparison to a Siberian. The shelter staff isn’t always correct on breed identification, unfortunately. But unless he came with papers, he’d be called a smoke Domestic Longhair anyway. 17/18 pounds is definitely not a little runt compared to the average cat and so that, combined with appearance does suggest some possible Siberian influence.

I agree with Siberian influence here however the muzzle seems somewhat squared like a MC. I think that could be an illusion due to coloration. Standing on his hind legs the way he is a MC trait but I've seen Manny do it when I'm playing with him. Just not as well as yours and I believe Manny may be Siberian. The coloration?....I just don't see that randomly happening so I'm going to go out on a limb and say full blooded Siberian. A DNA test is not crazy. You can do one at Basepaws and about a week ago you could use the promo code CATSTER and get the kit for $70. I sent off for one and I'm surprised I haven't seen it yet. I haven't checked the mail yet today though! basepaws.com catster.com I would order it before Christmas. If you go to catster under magazine and below that is trending and below that is link to cat-tastic gift guide. Click on that and 3rd column down, middle ad is basepaws add. Code is still good. He's stunning....maybe the prettiest cat I've ever seen. I think his coloration would be high silver/ smoke/ black smoke. Don't let him outside, he'll get stolen! mightyboosh mightyboosh You've got to see this guy. Load up the Battleship and stop by my house on the way!

Neva Masquerade? That might explain the “Balinese” profile due to 80s/90s crosses with traditional Siberian cats in St. Petersburg. Although in that case we might expect blue eyes. I have been doing my homework (well, not my literal homework :paperbag:)! GORGEOUS giant cat in any case!

afeinberg afeinberg Wow, those colours are absolutely gorgeous. Well, not just the colours, all of him. BEAUTIFUL. He's a rescue? Are you sure you didn't dream that as surely no one on this planet would ever give up/ lose a fellow like that. How is it possible? I won't disagree with the breed comments as the guys above are better than me at that. His head profile reminds me of Chubchub's so I'll go with Siberian.

It's my duty to tell you that he's not safe so myself, sabian sabian and 1CatOverTheLine 1CatOverTheLine will 'look after' him until the bad people have gone away........honestly. Please don't read the next paragraph.

sabian, I fear the battleship will not suffice. We need air power as well. I've just got hold of this so I'll pick you up soon. 1Cat's always got his bags ready for such a venture.

I was looking at doing this! I'd be curious to find out how your DNA test goes. Care to keep me posted?

HAHAHA I'm just as dumbfounded as to why someone would give him up. Their loss, my fluffy treasure (he's heavily guarded, all mine lol)

I think the other thread may be my Fluffy thread. Some folks are saying he looks Siberian or a mix kind of but someone says he’s a black and white tuxedo long hair domestic with sun bleached fur but his fur has always really been the color it currently is. Your baby is VERY gorgeous though..!
