I put in a request to ask if the property maintenance person could take 15 minutes of his time to put them in. I just checked the status and it says approved so I guess he'll call or come by at some point today. My Amazon package is on its way. The maintenance person will have to plug them in next week if the package doesn't arrive before 3pm today.

Murphy got his clipped last night because he wouldn't quit digging them into my neck when he was giving me cuddles and hugs. I wish I could get him to understand that it hurts. Connor hasn't had any more issues with his getting too long and catching in the carpet. Seems like that was a one time thing. Mickey and Marcy don't have any claw issues, either so Murphy is the only one who has to suffer the indignity of having his claws trimmed. He seems to have accepted it and just sits there while we do it but he still gives us dirty looks and goes off to pout afterward. That only lasts about 10 minutes, then he comes back to snuggle maul me some more. He's a very aggressive snuggler.

So....

The depression is worse. I'm actually sad now, and I couldn't even summon the energy to go to work a couple of days. I'm now on FMLA leave, since I'm useless at work. The irony of it all. I could be productive in folding and hanging clothes and handling baby items with my arm in a sling, but I can't be with my brain chemicals all funky. It's hit hard, the one time I've been to work since for grocery shopping, I cried in the parking lot after. I've been on FMLA before for mental health issues, but that was "as needed" so I actually couldn't make myself work only a few days.

I'm at home now, two days so far, and I'm making myself do stuff. Yesterday though I didn't go to the fitness center to keep myself in shape nor did I look for a channel with exercise videos to follow. I won't be going to the fitness center today either, I already know it. But my kitchen and bathrooms are nearly sparkling clean, and I did all my home exercises.

Speaking of cleaning, I have found the greatest stuff for cat puke/hairballs and for the visual cleanup part of poop/pee. I store my bike in the dining room and it made a mess of the carpet. The smaller stains might have been tire rubber but the big one was definitely dirty oil from the bike chain. I used Spot Shot on them and my carpet is clean. Even the huge oil stain is completely gone. One warning if any of you try it - it says on the can to finish cleaning with a white cloth. Make sure it's white. I was smart for once and did so, and while I can't see a difference in the carpet even where it's been used more than once, the white shirts I use have some of the carpet dye on them which bleach can't get out. I hate to think what would have happened if I had used a brightly colored cloth and that dye was transferred onto the carpet.

I know they say you can't catch colds from being wet, but I gotta wonder. One of the last days at work it was 40 degrees, wind chill made it feel like 34 degrees and it was pouring rain. I was soaked from head to toe going to work. I actually did wring out a sock and I had enough water in my sweats that I could have wrung those out too. About two hours after starting work my throat was sore and my sinuses were running. I'm still sick which probably isn't helping my mental state.

I'm so cold all the time now. If I weren't losing weight so easily I'd think I have thyroid problems. I'm getting bloodwork tomorrow, TSH is on the prescription. It's definitely a wise thing to check because of the depression, and because of personal and family history. I have an abnormally enlarged thyroid though it's always functioned just fine. Then again I've also only recently switched back to regular salt after a couple of years of sea salt, so I hope the reduced iodine intake didn't cause problems. My grandmother had horrible thyroid problems, to the point where they decided to destroy the whole thing and put her on synthroid for life. Note: If they have to get rid of your thyroid and they give you a choice between surgical removal or radiation treatment, choose the surgery. My grandmother chose radiation and was so miserable she wished she had done surgical removal instead.

Oh, and about the weight loss, Halloween made me gain 6 pounds really suddenly, in a week. I didn't think I ate that much candy. I've already lost 3 of those pounds though. I thought at first it was a fluke, I can vary by up to 3 pounds a day, but not with the way the scale is going down. I really hope I don't gain a lot of weight during the leave. I guess some is unavoidable though, unless I get the energy to go to the fitness center or starve myself.

And, starving, for some reason I've been craving carbs like no tomorrow. Maybe my body needs quick energy? For a week and a half now I've been surviving on potatoes and ice cream. No, not at the same time. Yesterday I'm pretty sure the only protein I had was 2 ounces of cheddar cheese. Today I made myself eat eggs.

I've given up on the shoulder ever being pain-free. The PT is confused by the fact that pain is still present. And not just pain, he and his assistant can feel the inflammation in both the tendon and the muscle it's connected to. It does need strengthening though, to prevent other problems from cropping up. After all, there's plenty more tendons, ligaments, muscles and bones in there to screw up. So I'm continuing PT, for that reason, even if it isn't going to make the pain go away.

Aspirin was helping, I figured it would be the best choice because it takes such a tiny dose to reduce inflammation in blood vessels all day. But no more aspirin. My psych is putting me on lithium and he doesn't want to overtax my kidneys.

Years ago my husband and I had been given Magic the Gathering cards. I'm going to find someplace local where someone can teach me. I have to get out of the house during this leave time, I have to have social contact. But first I'm organizing them. They are like baseball cards, some actually have serious money value. Last thing I want is to have a $1000 card and not realize it and someone else fast-talking me into trading it for a different worthless one.

Midway is a freaking alarm clock, he's always yowling within minutes of 7am. I don't know what it is, but at 7am he wants everyone up. When one of us gives up and gets up, he runs fast downstairs. And there's still food in his bowl from the evening feeding, so it's not that, though he will grab three or so bites before entwining himself around your feet. Last night I went to bed very early to see the doctor early this morning (an hour and a half away) and Midway apparently felt I went to bed too soon and didn't give him enough attention because he started yowling at 11pm. He's lucky he looks cute when sleeping because murder was definitely on my mind after a half an hour of yowling last night.

Murder. Today the psych asked if I felt suicidal, I said no. I'm old enough to know that it will eventually go away, I'll cycle upwards. He asked if I felt homicidal. I said I don't have the energy for that.

Sigh. Time to quit stalling and do my PT exercises. And vacuum upstairs. And the actual stairs. And maybe find an exercise channel. And maybe some Dayquil for the sore throat and stuffed nose.

:hugs::hugs::hugs:I am sorry you are not feeling well. Yep get off of ol chair and keep moving..does a good sweat from a workout help you? I know it helps me immensely. Today I didn't go for my bike ride due to cold and I feel lazy and sad. I need a good sweaty workout. It doesn't fix life's problems but it sure helps me feel better....I say the doctor calls for a good sweaty workout darling..and some hugs from me to you.:grouphug::grouphug2::alright:

Mr Jon texted me to get him some instant potatoes...that man eats the strangest food. Yesterday it was Oreas. Today potatoes. I told him he needs to quit the carbs but on the other hand he's so skinny that I would be glad to see him eat anything at this point=of course he thinks he is fat- the dumb butt.:mad2::mad2::mad2::nono::nono::nono:

So I must head to Wal mart next door and wander the food area..maybe pick up something else to eat..even though I already got stuff last night. I got a package of thin Oreas...guess who ate most of them..me! LOL. they were really good. Tonight will behave. Ate my veggies and meat today and oatmeal. no junk. but can't say I will be able to stop when I get home..nothing like some cookies while I read a book. :read:

@Anne, awesome new emojies! Thanks! :bunnydance:

OH YES! I've been playing in them like a mad thing :dizzycat::runaround:

Reminds me.. time for a nail clip.. I try to do it the beginning of each month.
SIGH...the last time I tried to clip Hek's nails, it took two stitches to repair me. Better than the last time I attempted to bathe her. THAT little fiasco took 5 stitches! She is not a cat who tolerates having her royal personage trifled with.

Murder. Today the psych asked if I felt suicidal, I said no. I'm old enough to know that it will eventually go away, I'll cycle upwards. He asked if I felt homicidal. I said I don't have the energy for that.
Hang in there, Sweetie. As you said, you will cycle upwards, but BOY does it seem to take forever! :alright:

We have a freeze warning out for tonight. I'm going to take a break here in just a minute, fill an old sock with rice, microwave it, wrap it in some old towel scraps, and tuck it into the shelter. The kittens always use it when the weather is really wet and windy, and I'm hoping that they will take shelter there tonight!

My sister had her thyroid removed. She had lumps on it and after removal, they found that it was full of cancer. I did some reading on it and learned that thyroid issues can cause you to either lose or gain weight and they can definitely cause low energy so it's worth getting tested, for sure. Best wishes.

Alicia88 Alicia88 If you've got too little, you get depressed, you sleep all the time, you gain weight and you feel cold. But if you've got too much thyroid hormones, you lose weight. So my symptoms don't match either one.

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 is there a way of getting an electric heat source in there, one that will safely heat throughout the whole night?

And my cats must be feeling sorry for me. I was able to bathe both without a yowl of protest, without claws being dug into my shoulder as I lowered them into the Tub of Doom and without them trying to escape. And today I was able to trim both their claws without any trouble. Well, any trouble from Midway. Montressor decided that since my hand was on his paws it was also close enough to his head that he kept shoving his head into my hand for pettings. Sweet, but with clippers about to snip the claw, not exactly an easy trim.

Oh, and for anyone who doesn't use a pet specific shampoo...do not use Dove Men + Care. Smells good on your man, overwhelming on your male cats. And that's with me having rinsed really, really well.

My new detectors are here:woo: I didn't see it until almost 4pm and by that time the maintenance person had gone for the day. I did run into him this morning and mentioned it. He said to just give him a call when I have the detectors. I won't be home until Wednesday. Hopefully the blasted detector in the main living area won't start chirping again :angrywoman: There is a button to silence alarms but I've never been able to get it to work :headscratch:

I'm not sure if pregnancy is making mine irritable or my neighbors are being stupidly annoying. We have thin walls here but for some reason, they've been leaving their apartment door open so I can hear everything they say and do. I really hope we find a new place soon. I want peace And quiet. Plus, every time they walk in the hallway, it sounds like a herd of elephants. I don't know how they walk so heavily! I mean, are they stomping?
I'm cranky today. I'm sending myself to my room for a nap.

arouetta arouetta , no, wet weather does not cause colds; it just makes you more likely to catch them. Two things happen during cold wet weather:
  1. You can get cold and wet with no chance to dry off and warm up, which stresses your body and hence your immune system.
  2. People tend to crowd together inside, exposing one another to all their germs. (This is why we so frequently end up sick after a plane trip.) Then, when they get sick and take time off from work, they go to the store (Target?) and expose everyone there to their germs.
It sounds like both of these things happened to you at the same time; I would be very surprised if it hadn't resulted in you getting a cold. :vibes: :alright: :hugs:

There will definitely be no piece and quiet once the baby is there. :wavey:

I saw a really cute video on Facebook, but I can't link this one. I think it's because it's a commercial. And it's staged, but still hilarious. On Cats Planet or Your Daily Dose of Cuteness look for a video titled "How Christmas feels when you have a cat".

Today is my 28th wedding anniversary. I wasn’t sure we’d last the first five years.

He still makes me laugh and smile and puts up with all my craziness. And he’s quit saying ‘I didn’t want the first cat’.
Happy Anniversary!! :beerchug:
