Patrick has been up for adoption for at least 2 years, put him on PetFinders too, no results or only from people on another continent where black cats are in short supply and are really wanted. Put him on the CatSite again because due to my health I really cannot take care of him anymore and catwoman707 found someone for him. That's why I am still waiting and have no info about the transporters or the future mom. Somewhere the communications have broken down and I can't do anything about it. Catwoman707 has my real name and phone number which she said she gave to the transporter and who was supposed to call me but didn't, but I only have her name, no other way to contact her but through this site and I have heard nothing else from her.
I'm finally on my weekend now. The last I knew Katie said she would try to call you tmrw and see if next week something can be worked out/arranged, which was last Thursday so meaning call on Friday.
I just sent her a message to ask if she has had a chance to call you.

Keep in mind, we all have full time jobs etc, and do what we can to help animals, as well as those who can't help in typical ways but can offer transport help, but it won't always happen immediately. I know for myself personally, I always have cat rescue things going on by the handfuls. Helping coordinate with TNR'ing, saving fixed ferals at the shelter who need to be pulled and relocated or will be euthanized with a very short time to make that happen, or this one stuck up a tree and who to contact, or down a storm drain, or countless people asking for help with kittens in yard, an injured kitty or feral injured, it literally consumes my life and exhausts me and makes my head spin at times.

I will let you know as soon as she replies for an idea of when, etc.
Hang in there.

Thank you, it was just sort of worrying when I did not hear anything from anyone. And no, Katie has not called me.

I found the smoke detector spec sheet online. So there is a quick connect plug that connects the wires to the detector. So it looks like I can buy a different model of the same brand and plug it right in  The one I'm looking at is pretty much the same model, just newer and with a B at the end of the model number, and it uses the same base.

I can still get the same model CO2 detector so I can just plug it right in.

Edit: Just bought 2 smoke detectors and a CO2 detector from Amazon. The local Home Depot doesn't have the particular models I need. My order isn't arriving until next week but I should be ok until then :crossfingers:

Well catching up here. I hope Patrick gets adopted segalkat.

Jon went to his specialist yesterday and they said he has PMR Polymyalgia Rheumatoid. And they started him on pred. Looks like it's a long time on steroids but man I wouldn't wish that pain on anyone. He took it as soon as he filled the script. He was walking without the cane last night and face didn't look so etched in pain. The doc wants bloods done 3 weeks to see if his numbers go down. if so-then that's what it is but the doctor thinks there's two different things going on. They didn't want to do a bone scan. Said there's other things that can be done. I said well next time ask for it again-it's nice to know where the arthritis is so you know in the future if major pains in that region then you know what it is. Duh.

This morning said only half the pain is gone-but he was happy with that. still didn't sleep well. I told him you will this weekend when the medication has a chance to work. Looks like PMR is inflammation of blood vessels..ouch! OR that's what the pamphlet said that they sent him home with.

The next thing to work on= DIET. He seems receptive to adding more veggies but he's a picky eater so we are limited..I think I will just pulverize things into a soup and add to whatever we are eating but normally he hates gravy- I got him eating spinach in salads. The next thing to keep eye on is his minerals-I don't want to overload him with potassium n other minerals if they are too high...also phosphorus I heard is another culprit of issues when older. He is eating canned beans and trying to convince him to make them from scratch without the added salt...that's the hardest thing I am finding.

I want to eliminate the following: HFCS and salt. But it's in everything. He won't eat the foods I eat. I eat plain chicken/noodles/butter/pepper/spinach/broccoli every day. I haven't found anything that has flavor without salt crap. I still use rice mix in the box from near east but I don't add the seasoning clump=I only put 1/4 of it and it still had plenty of flavor...I just don't have time to cook from scratch and he is picky..gonna experiment with the crock pot next week. I am easy=feed me plain noodles n meat I am happy. I don't need different food every day...I must be strange...either way we will figure it out as we go.

I was curious about PMR so just looked it up. One source Polymyalgia Rheumatica | Arthritis Foundation indicates that there is a good chance that it will go away in five years. The other one Polymyalgia Rheumatica doesn't mention that so once again Dr. Google gives conflicting information. :headscratch: Both seem to agree that PMR is an inflammation of the joints and supporting tissues which implies that the inflammation is more widespread than just the blood vessels. Regardless of what's what, it's clear that this disease hurts like the dickens and it's no wonder that Jon has been in such pain. It's just wonderful that he's already feeling better.

Jon is so lucky to have you looking out for him. I wonder if he knows how lucky he is - if not you can tell him that an anonymous person on the internet told you so. That should make a big impression!

I wish I had someone taking care of my dietary needs and cooking for me. Sniffle. :sniffle:

Anyway, it looks like things are finally looking up for you and Jon and I'm so glad to hear that.

Drat! It showed until I posted it. So sorry.

It was a photo of two cats looking over the edge of the roof, one on each side of a ladder, with the caption, "You're right. They DON'T land on their feet!"
Was this it? It sounded too funny not to get it on this thread, somehow!

foxxycat foxxycat , I don't think you need to worry too much about salt in Jon's diet; it's beginning to become quite apparent that the scientists who said salt causes high blood pressure were cherry-picking their data. I'm much more concerned about carbohydrates in his diet (including but not limited to HFCS). Steroids can cause diabetes. Please make sure the doctor is watching out for this, and that Jon is aware of the danger. Giving up things like sweets and bread and potatoes can be extremely difficult (voice of experience speaking); if there are spices (including salt) that make food more enjoyable for Jon that may ease the transition a bit, in addition to which it may make it easier for you to persuade him to make the effort.

Try an electric pressure cooker. I have one. Stew is done in an hour. Tonight I am trying a pot roast in it.

Hey ladies what heating blanket do u all like? Jons going to go shopping n get one. What store too?

As far as diabetes I doubt he will get it. The dose is very low. Almost as low as cats are on. But I will keep eye out. I dont care tell him causes weight gain or he will not take it. He thonks 165lb is fat. :mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2:I outweigh him by a ton and I say hes under weight. 5 foot 10 inches. He used to be 5-11.

I know that the salt is important but he's borderline high. His used to be 140/100 until we stopped fast food and hot dogs etc. It's now 130/85. For his age it's not bad. He wants to walk again but right now still hurts too much.

Margd yes they said inflammation of joints...but I am confused...i thought that was what rheumatoid arthritis is??? I also am confused because his RA factor was off the charts....the doc thinks both are at play. I still think it's left over shingles....someone mentioned shingles nerve pain can last 6 to 1w months post shingles on this site but forget who said it.

:censored:.:angryfire:I hate shingles:angryfire:And arthritis:argue::argue::argue:

Too bad you live on the other side of the country or I would be happy to cook for you, take care of your dietary needs and have someone to eat with. I love to cook and have had people who needed special diets, unfortunately they have both passed.

Anyway, it looks like things are finally looking up for you and Jon and I'm so glad to hear that.

@Winchester just posted, about buying a new blanket, in the Name three things thread. It was a Biddeford Electric Blanket.

Shingles can cause lasting nerve pain but the pain is located along the nerve pathway which was effected by the shingles virus; i.e. where the rash was, not a diffuse pain.

Jon could have a couple of thing happening. The thing he is being treated for, in addition to the Rheumatoid Arthritis; or the PMR can be effecting the Rheumatoid factor, causing it to elevate.

A former neighbor of mine, has polyneuromyalgia (?) or something like that ... it is somewhat rare, taking a long time to diagnose. It is not fibromyalgia, but the pain can be severe.. She is very elderly, but gets around so well. When the pain hits, she describes it as an intense pain. She cannot do anything at all.. just lie or sit in pain. It may be the same thing Jon has.
She is stubborn and refuses to take steroids or pain meds. She has had this for years, only worsening.

Yes, she is always cold.

(((hugs))) to both you and Jon...

I've never understood why shelters would euthanize fixed ferals. I mean, they hunt and pretty much care for themselves - why kill them?
My shelter doesn't euthanize ferals (we refer them for TNR) but in some cases the local community will not allow the ferals to be returned, so the shelter may feel they have no other option.

Update on Patrick: finally heard from Katie, she is trying to get somebody for either this Saturday or the one after in Bakersfield, from there he would go to Fresno and from there to Tracy. It's all done by volunteers. I can do Bakersfield on a weekend, it will take about 2 1/2 hours one way. Patrick travels well, once the carrier is in the car he never makes a sound, but the carrier being carried around upsets him, probably feels like an earthquake to him. The carrier I have for him is big enough to accommodate a small litter box, it was meant for air travel and I got it from someone who did use it for that, she travelled a lot and took her cat with her.
Now that I have at least a name of the new mom I feel much better, just knowing there is an end to Patrick's uncertain status and that he is welcome where he is going.

I am so happy to hear this!! :hyper::hyper::hyper:

Good ride on a crisp cold fall day. 42°F and sunny. The sun warmed me in spots. I wore the long sleeved coat I bought for riding and it worked like a charm. Kept me warm and didn't overheat me as I am like a furnace-not much to overheat. It was windy in some areas-which makes it very challenging to go fast. But so much better than summer. I HATE summer-I would be happy to live in this cool temps forever-no bugs, not too much sweat.

Jon texted me that the power went out earlier-the power company notified us that they would be doing this 2 weeks ago-and I forgot..and he sent me one word text "cold" so I said get dressed, go walk around the mall and start looking for that electric blanket you want...haven't heard back. Tonight is cooking night..baked chicken with mushrooms and onions and baby greens salad (kale/spinach) w broccoli n cukes w croutons. Got to up my veggies..and the baby kale is actually pretty good-I cook it in the nuker with my spinach for my lunch with chicken..fill a bowl overflowing and barely get a thin layer..
