Where do you think?
Also that chicken coop structure looks like it could use a bit of TLC. It must get drafty with a hole in it. Looks like vermin damage (raccoon or squirrels)

We still haven't been able to catch the injured cat yet. I am really thinking it may have been thrown out of a car. That or it got injured and someone dropped it off at this colony a couple of weeks ago. I am going out in the morning to try again! Ugh!

Yeah it looks like it might be one of the original shelters.. I am not too worried right now about repairing it because there are over 10 shelters in the area that they provided for them. Insulated dog boxes stuffed with straw. There are also dog crates wrapped in tarp and then stuffed with straw. It is really impressive. And whoever put them out (probably the caretaker I am talking to) Did a good job of covering them with sticks and leaves to help camouflage them.

I wouldn't be able to ensure that the injured cat is the one eating the antibiotics unfortunately. I can't even verify if he comes back after I see him :( generally I see him and he runs out of sight for as long as I'm there. I'm going to have to trap I think. And it's going to take a while I think. Like I'll have to set the trap and hide in the car for a bit for him to come back. And pray none of the other cats go in.

Ok so the other rescue I am working with to catch him just had a drop trap donated to them! yay! So we are going out Saturday morning to try to catch him that way!
Bad news... the caretaker said there is another litter of three. It sounds like they are younger than the others. he said they are still nursing. Sigh. I haven't seen them. I am going to see where he has been seeing them and see if I can get them.

We went out two times yesterday and didn't get any sightings of kittens. I emailed him and asked where he saw them but I haven't gotten an answer yet. The second time we went out was around 6pm. When we got there there were no cats in sight. We walked around the property and looked into all of the shelters (the last litter of kittens we caught because they were in one of the shelters). We didn't find any. So we walked back to the car which was beside the main feeding spot. The two most friendly cats were there- they must have heard us walking around and came up to investigate. The one is a gray tabby the caretaker named Arthur. He was clearly a pet someone abandoned there because he comes right up to us. The other is a brown tabby, I think she is one of the mommas. I think she is either the momma to one of the litters or she might be pregnant. Trapping her is definitely a goal. Our spay/neuter trip is two weeks from now. She wants to trust us, she gets very close when I bring chicken. But stays about 5-10 feet away and watches us. As I turned to get in the car I saw the injured cat. Laying about 30 feet away watching us. He is very light grey in color. He looks like a ghost. I slowly walk closer to him and he doesn't run. I get about 20 feet away. He backs up a little bit. It goes on like this where I move forward and he moves a little more backward. But I was able to get closer to him than before. He is very curious about us. He is also smaller than I was thinking. Still thinking the foot is broken, it almost looked like the foot itself was facing the wrong direction? It is so hard for me to see because he only has it exposed when he is dragging it behind him while he is running from me. Going back in the morning! My friend had a drop trap donated to her! So we are hoping to use it! Fingers crossed!

Just stumbled across your thread now ashade1 ashade1 I think it's wonderful that you can help these cats. Well done on catching that first litter of kittens. I hope you can find the second litter soon.

Did the old gentlemen have the spayed and neutered cats ear tipped? That would make it easier to see which ones were still intact.

Good luck with the drop trap. I hope your able to catch the injured one soon.

I guess the injured kitten is getting used to your presence. Is he eating the food you brought him? If yes, it would be easier to trap him.

Hoping for the best.

He says the 6 already spayed and neutered cats are ear tipped except for one that was already neutered when he came to the colony (but he is the only black cat at this colony so I know he is neutered). I have been looking and have only seen one ear tipped... The Siamese one. So it looks like I have my hands full with these guys. According to his numbers we have 8 to spay/neuter. That number wasn't counting any kittens.
The litter that we have already caught is doing better. They eat and play when I am in the room now, they dont want me to touch them still though :D

I hope you are able to trap the injured one today. He sounds like the #1 priority. Good luck.

Also, do you think if Arthur was once a pet, he could eventually be rehomed?

Have you tried the KFC with the injured cat?

If the foot is backwards it may be a case of contracted tendon/swimmer's foot and no injury. May just need a splint and physical therapy.

I hope you get him today!

I had brought KFC off the one day to try but he never showed up (the only day I haven't seen him go figure) I think this morning I'm going to try tuna or something else smelly.

Those kittens look so sweet! The others will likely come around to being friendly before too long!
