As some of you know my cat was recently diagnosed with acute pancreatitis and hepatic lipidosis. It's a slow go but he's getting better with some days better than others. He is not eating dry food again but does lick some liquid off cat food. I'm still feeding recovery can food and he tolerates that. However he does throw up stomach acid a few times a day.

Here is where I'm confused. He throws up stomach acid after using the litter box. Same litter, same box as he used before getting sick. BUT when I had him a separate box when first coming home No problem. Just a card box with the same litter always used. I'm fixing him up another box with the litter and see what happens?
Any one have a clue why this may be happening???

Are you still giving your cat meds? It kind of seems that he needs some Cerenia or Zofran.. for upset stomachs and nausea.. and perhaps a daily 1/2 pepcid. I would check in with your Vet about this.

When you say he vomits when he uses the litter box; is it pee or poop?

I would definitely check with the vet about this..
sorry, I am not much help, but we are all here for you.. ((Hugs))

Thank you. He is only taking Pepcid and Denamarin. It's only a little bit of foamy stuff and usually in the morning and after urinating. I watched him earlier and he has no problem going. He covers it, gets out and almost immediately throws up a small amount of foamy liquid.

He is keeping down all he's fed.

Just white thick foam. Not vey much at all, does it about three times. Seems to be urinating without any problem.

I just set him up another litter box to see what happens.

Maybe some gastritis? Do you have a follow-up at the vet where you can get this checked out?

Thanks all. Picking up more recovery food at the vet tomorrow so will ask then.

I was just wondering if there was a connection with urinating and throwing up right afterwards. Maybe something about the old litter box. Waiting to see how it goes when he uses the new one I set up.

Pancreatitis is very painful. Sounds to me like he could be still experiencing pain, and concurrent nausea. (My last cat had bouts of pancreatitis during her last year of life.) Did the vet prescribe pain medicine?!

When was his last ultrasound (or has he had one)?

He had an ultra sound and X-rays on July 3 then another ultra sound on July 5. Everything looked good and that's the day he was diagnosed with Hepatic Lipidosis. We have been caring for him at home since then.

He doesn't appear to be in pain and was not on pain med while at the vet or now at home.

He seems totally fine and will eat some on his own and then the next feeding he won't attempt to eat on his own but will take what I give by finger.

He actually ate some wet cat food on his own yesterday a couple of times. Today just what I feed him. He seems okay and right now laying in the window watching outside.

He hasn't thrown up after using box since I changed it from the old one. He did throw up a small dime size amount once this morning then seemed fine.

This is a roller coaster ride since July 2. We get so excited when he eats or drinks water on his own. Then the next moment we are down because he will not eat or drink unless I feed him. And honestly we can't afford more vet bills so we are doing what we can and with lots of kitty prayers.

Thanks for all the information. Looks like the problem may have just been constipation. We have been so concerned with the pancreatitis and hepatic lipidosis and with him passing a small stool we didn't really think of constipation. But after reading your replies we tried a little Metamucil when feeding. Don't know if it worked that fast but something did. Last night he ate some dry on his own. Then early morning he ate wet food, had a good movement, ate a little dry. Then at his 11 am feeding he ate the wet by himself and drank water! Thank you all for the replies. This is a great board, learning through other people's experiences.
