tallyollyopia tallyollyopia , :alright:. It sounds like a terrible day!

BTW, if your convenience store chain were in my area and I found out that there were pumps deliberately set to not print out receipts and the register inside wouldn't be able to do it for several minutes, I would be boycotting your stores, and not just for gas. You may want to pass that on to management. They may think that they get more sales because of this, but in reality they're antagonizing the customers. (I totally agree that the one who gave you grief was way over the line, but he did have a valid reason to be angry -- just not at you. Angry people seldom make that distinction, however.)

Margret
It's not something the company brandishes about--I don't think it's something store management knows about. I only put it together because I'm used to reading between the lines and I'm a naturally suspicious person. When I have clerks in my store from all over town (horse and farm country, so we're kind of spread out, but it's the same convenience store for all of it) complaining about having three pumps (exactly three for each station, no matter how large or small the station is) that won't print receipts no matter how many times they make sure the printers have paper and ink--it's not hard to put the dots together. As for the relay delay; my manager has been campaigning to have it fixed. It's one of the reasons I'm authorized to give customers waiting for a receipt free fountain or coffee.

Every once in a while I go to a gas station where I don't always get a receipt at the pump. I just walk away in disgust and look it up on my comp when I get home as this station only takes debit cards so it shows up on my comp immediately. I don't know if it's always the same pump or randomly as I avoid getting gas there
I don't blame you a bit. I don't even try to get receipts anymore, but part of the problem is that the store has a monopoly in the area; they can get away with it because they're (quite literally now) the only game in town.

In other news--I got great news! The application for my financial aid to help pay my hospital bill went through, and my balance with the hospital is now zero! :D I'd break into song and dance if I wasn't so exhausted from my night.

I just saw this story on the news this morning: http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/local-news/another-victim- speaks-about-cat-killer-suspect
:bawling2::argh:

It can't be said enough, Do not rehome a cat via CraigsList.

Margret
I am so glad I rehomed my cat Kattopu, a Maine Coon mix, some two years ago now to a person who loves him to death. Kattopu could not get along with the cats that already lived here. When the lady travelled here from San Diego, 78 miles away, it was love at first sight for both of them and it has remained a match made in heaven. She paid a $100.00 adoption fee although only $50.00 were required. She had brought a cat carrier but it was too small, she had not expected a cat so big but was happy that he was. I lent her a bigger carrier, asked when I could come visit him and pick up the carrier. The rest is history. Kattopu is now Luigi, he has a sister named Lollipop who is a feisty Persian, his new mom and I have become friends, send pictures and visit back and forth.

Here he is with his new mom.

@Margret man, that just turned my stomach. I don't have the capacity to understand that at all. Serial killers of humans make more sense to me, to tell the truth.

Now, what's on my mind? One of the neighbors stopped by and asked me if I would watch her son, aged 4, for a couple of hours so she could go out tonight. Now, in the first place, I know this kid. His mother has never let the word "no" cross her lips when speaking with him. In the second place, the last neighbor who was asked to watch for "a couple of hours" had already told me that Mama left at 8pm, got home at 2am, skunky drunk, threw two five dollar bills at her and said, "That's all I have left. Catch you later." Wanna bet how THAT went? SOOOOOOOO...I told her I don't have the energy, stamina or patience to babysit, but good luck. What I bit my tongue from saying was, "Lady, I know you AND your kid, and I'd far rather attempt to shave a bobcat's butt in a phone booth!" Aren't y'all SO proud of me? I stayed a lady!

Yes. I am proud of you. I wouldn't have even answered the door. I have zero patience for young children.

My DD graduates from the University of Central Florida on Saturday!! :hyper:One degree down, one to go!

I am a lot more excited about this than she is. :headshake: :rolleyes2:

So, yesterday AWM woke me to tell me that Granma's sick, and may not live through the night. (As far as either of us know, she's still alive. I feel certain someone would have contacted us if she wasn't.) Well, Granma went to a cardiopulminologist yesterday morning who highly recommended that she get oxygen, but wouldn't prescribe it for her. Then he proceeded to tell her not to go to the ER. (Honestly; I don't have a really high opinion of our ER, but they have oxygen tanks. Every single ambulance in the county--even private ones!!!--are required to have oxygen tanks. I don't know if this is true everywhere, but in this state you cannot get oxygen without a prescription. This was irresponsible.) Well, yesterday she started having trouble breathing, her lips and fingernails developed a blue tinge, and she wouldn't go to the ER because the doctor told her not to. (AWM's planning to have some words with him this morning. I don't think it's a coincidence that the clinic is still closed when they were supposed to open a little over an hour ago.) The ambulance (rightly, might I add) can't take her if she's not willing to go--unless she's passed out, because then it's implied consent (a whole different can of worms). I went to work last night anyway (because honestly, the only thing that would have happened at home would have been me jumping every time AWM's phone rang and at least I could accomplish something at work), and I told my manager about the situation this morning. She told me to keep her updated, so she can get me time off if I need it. :cringe: I hope I don't need it.

What kind of doctor would "recommend" something and then not prescribe it? And then say she should NOT go to the ER if she thought she needed to? This doctor sounds like he does not know what he is talking about. If something happens to her I would think a big fat malpractice suit is waiting to happen.

Does she have a living will or something like that? Something that would restrict life-extending treatment? If there's been a change in mental condition the doctors would have to go with something she signed while clearly of sound mind. And a caring doctor would honor her dignity and neither prescribe treatment she clearly didn't want when she considered end-of-life decisions nor would he recommend going to a medical facility that would force/mentally coerce such treatment when she's unable to fight for her own dignity.

I've seen this sort of thing a couple times in my own family.

My new shoes came in! :woohoo::gift:

The toes are a little more snug than I'm used to, but nothing compared to pointy toes, and I still have plenty of toe wiggle room.

(Wow, the upper picture shows what the cats have done with the leather couch, all those pinpricks and that scratch.)

I think I'll change into a dress for the day. :banana1:

Those are really shoes! They look comfy too.

I'm off tomorrow to attend a conference in Wisconsin Dells tomorrow and Saturday. DH is going with me so we're making it a micro-vacation. The only workshops I'm interested in are in the morning and I've got plenty of continuing education hours already so we'll have plenty of time to spend together. Just 4 more hours of work today, woo hoo! :woohoo:

Keep us posted, Darlin. You know that you and your family (ESPECIALLY GRAN!) are in our thoughts and hearts.

Well...Spectrum showed up to replace worn outside wiring, so I rushed through emails before they cut my connection, and now they've pulled off without doing anything. How very odd. HOWEVER...Since I rushed through everything, I'm going to go offline anyway and get that dratted bookcase assembled. It's been sitting for a week while I hemmed and hawed and didn't do a thing! See y'all tomorrow!

Really cute shoes. I can't wear heels anymore, I seem to be too unsteady on my feet but wedges seem to be ok, just not those abominably high ones (feet are too short!), a 1 inch wedge looks good and is comfortable as long as it is cut low enough, high arches don't take well to high vamps which are always too tight and cut into the top of the foot. Because my feet are so short I can wear pointy-toed shoes without looking like a freak. I've seen women with really long, narrow feet, size 10+ with really pointy shoes and they look like the foot is 2 feet long although it really isn't.

Honeybee on my lap, music playing in background
Been a hectic week with the whole bankruptcy and union negotations and other bullcrap going on. I am working this weekend! Yay! I didn't make a fuss about last weekend-they didn't add me..and people were working..decided I need some exit zone time. I should have done more..but you know what I did?! I layed around Sunday reading The 4th book of 50 shades of grey=it was nice light fluffy nonsense reading that was perfect.

That afternoon after our meeting I stopped at two yardsales and got some more mens button up shirts 2X which I prefer. I HATE tight clothes.

I think those shoes are cute but I could never wear them. I can't arch my feet up that high anymore.

Since I did that opps with leg press/calf raises too much weight back in January I am still slowly recovering from it. I can stand on my toes on one foot but not the other-just ice it and let it heal while manipulating the foot with my hand several times a day=wow didn't realize how hard it is to heal when I am used to pushing through the pain-got to stop that.

Honeybee is loving the spring weather! She's been bugging us at 4am to go out which of course NO! she isn't allowed out until 9ish. Jon keeps eye on her on the deck-he walks out there and claps his hands and whistles to scare any animals away-she only hangs out for half an hour-comes in=beg for treats then goes nite nite for about 4 hours. Then may go out around 2ish or so then sleep until I get home. I let her out at 7ish for a few minutes-she likes to rub on this rock I bought and eat grass..I stay with her for the entire time then when she's done eating and rolling in the dirt I shoo her back inside. Hahahaha! my carpets are a MESS! I may have time Sunday to vacuum-but not tonight or tomorrow.

Sorry I have been absent-spent the past 3 weeks reading court documents on my employers bankruptcy to keep on top of what's been filed. It's been eye opening to say the least. Each court date keeps getting pushed out. Our's is June 20 but I am sure that will get pushed out. The vendors were supposed to have their date in April but that's now May 23 I believe..good grief..so that's how we play ball with big corporations? Just keep extending the dates to never get anything done?!

I have another bookcase, and ALL of the books are off of the floor! Man, I feel like people! I have enough room in the office for two more bookcases, and can get three in the bedroom, AND two in the living room. I want an electric fireplace for in there, so I'll get one in either oak or black. That way, I can get two shorter bookcases to flank it. No, you can never have too many books or bookcases. Until you die, and your kids say, "What the HECK was she thinking, keeping all of these?"

I've seen this sort of thing a couple times in my own family.

In California we now have "Death with Dignity" where one can chose their own time of death. It requires two physicians to testify that the patient is likely not going to survive more than 6 months, the patient has to be mentally fit, the doctor will prescribe a lethal dose of medication which then the patient can chose to take or not whenever the patient decides to, nobody can help the patient to take the medication. Get the movie "It's My Party" from Netflix which deals with this before it became law anywhere.
The state of Oregon has had this in place for over 20 years and less than half of the patients took the medication, they died from something else. But they had the choice which gave them peace of mind. It is going to be the same in California or any of the other states where this legal (Vermont and a few others). In other states there is always a directive to put into one's medical record and to be put in the very front that says to "not take heroic measures to extend life", but who knows if doctors and hospitals will follow that directive.

I used to think like that but being a renter I never know how long I will be able to stay in one place. So every so often I purge books. I keep certain collections, all my foreign language books, books that were signed or otherwise have sentimental value. If I don't think I'll read it again I donate it. Last time I moved I had more boxes with books than anything else and decided this was getting close to hoarding books and I got rid of about half of them (about 1,000 books), have stopped any and all book clubs, and now I am down to buying only very few books.
Unless you have a house of your own and the space it is better to cut down on the number of books you really keep, and yes, it hurts to get rid of books you've loved and that nobody else will care about. You CAN have too many books.
I wanted to show a pic but I have now been told that the file is too big, nuts! This used to be so easy, now it's a mess with too many hoops to jump through, double nuts!

If you're using your phone to take the picture, the file size and the actual size of the image are huge. Photo viewer programs on computers automatically shrink them to fit so you don't know the actual height/width of the picture can cover 4 pieces of paper when printed.

What I do is open the files with Paint (right-click the file, choose "Open with"). Then in the top menu I choose "Resize". The defaults are Percentage and Maintain Aspect Ratio, leave those alone. Then I replace "100" with "35", click Okay and then save the smaller image over the original file. The picture is now easier to view, easier to manipulate and best of all, the file size has shrunk tremendously.
