Thanks do much for posting this info! To those who have used s bourladii, how long does it take to start working?
This is a good one that's recommended by a lot of raw feeders. It contains both s. boulardii and the other strains of probiotics which are good for kitties. I use it with my own crew.Hello,
I'm sorry I can't answer the question above but I also have a question. My cat is on flagyl for stress colitis and I am scrambling to find an appropriate probiotic. Of course the vet recommends garbage Forti-flora. If I give my cat the Boulardii do I also need to give her a more wholesome probiotic to help recolonize her gut if everything been wiped out, or is the Boulardii good on it's own ? She is still having loose stool even after flagyl.

what is a good starting dose of Nexabiotic for a cat with a stool like the consistency of "sludge" ? Should I do an emergency diarrhea stop with Jarrow or a maintenance dose of Jarrow or Nexabiotic? She has had loose stool for weeks now. Flagyl is not helping. She also had a shot of Convenia for UTI.

If you have the Jarrow on hand I would start there. You can do either the emergency stop or maintenance, that one is up to you. The emergency stop just works faster. I would say once you get the diarrhea under control you can switch to Nexabiotics for a more comprehensive probiotic and you wont need to use the Jarrow on its own anymore. What brand of S. Boullardi are you using and what is the MOS you are referring to? Thanks for your great post.
Are you mixing it in her food? SB has a bitter taste, which can put some cats off, it's best either mixed in baby food separately, pilled, or mixed with a bit of tuna juice and syringed.
Dose is still a big question for me and Peanut. Even using tiny amounts of a combination of a standard human probiotic (from NOW) and the S. boulardii, she's shying away from her food. I was giving her the NOW product and she'd eat her food for the most part, with some reservations, so I wasn't confident about the SB. Maybe I'm using the wrong brand, maybe I'm still giving her too much, although I can't see how I could possibly give her less than what I'm already giving her because it's such a small amount. Her stool is still loose and if I miss a day of the "Pro" it has a stench to it that indicates to me there is an imbalance, one I'd like to correct as quickly as possible, even if it means giving her the SB, in combination with whatever it takes, really, every day, twice a day as one person recommended. I should add both Peanut and her sister Punkin are on a strictly wet food diet and have been for close to ten years. I'm going to try the Psyllium Husk powder that someone here recommends, but I'm worried that no matter how much SB I give her, she'll reject her food and thus get no "Pro."
Hi RexinMinn....I am the one who put my girls on Psyllium Husk powder. A teaspoon mixed into their wet food along with the SB. I had no issues with feeding them, they are game to try anything. Finicky eaters can be a problem. (Our previous 3 kitties were finicky buggers!) I also switched them to a high fiber dry food (Nutro chicken & brown rice). If they eat dry treats, I noticed the Feline Greenies treats have "up to" 10% fiber. My girls also eat canned pumpkin. I have added that (about a tablespoon or 2) to the wet food along with the SB and Psyllium. I would pursue finding out if there is an underlying issue causing the chronic diarrhea Perhaps bring them to your veterinarian as Missmimz suggested for a complete workup. In our case the girl's diarrhea was caused from neglected treatment of Giardia and Cryptosporidium before we adopted them from the shelter. It's been a brutal 4 months, but they are healed now.
