The truth is our little house babies never really grow up. They get to be forever children in our hearts and home. They depend on us and we nurture them.

And isn't that the truth?  Hekitty is so patient with my baby-talk.  I know she's a grown girl, and am so happy that she understands my need to mother her.  I am probably over-thinking this, but she's a smart girl.  She understands more than most would credit.

It's been a rough go the past few days. Wednesday night Mercy suddenly started growling. A sound her sweetness has never made before. She didn't come when I called treats. She didn't eat her dinner. She breaks her neck running for treats and to my knowledge has never missed a meal including the day we brought her home where she chowed down like she owned the place.

Vet the next day and nothing conclusive. This included a full probing and blood work. Vet was early Thursday morning. Her anal glands were full and the discomfort seemed to be coming from her back end so the vet went ahead and expressed her anal glands. They were full but not impacted. When we got home she took a HUGE dump. It was neither hard or overly soft. She did not cover it though and there was one drop of bright red blood outside the litter box. She was prescribed Buprenoephine every 12 hours. This was on the thought that while she was mobile she may have fallen having some pain. I gave her the meds again Wed night and on Friday. Stopped and gave no more Saturday and she has seemed fine. She's back to my little cuddle bun. We have an appointment tomorrow morning because during all an oral exam revealed very inflamed gums. Her blood work came back normal and the vet isn't worried about anything serious but we are going to have to address her mouth.

Thank God all seems well outside of her mouth...and doesn't that phrase just work well on two levels?  Let us know how the dental goes.  I'll be fretting just a little about it.

And in a lighter vein, and you know how my mind works, I'm wondering just how Mercy's mouth will be addressed?  Label?  Written in finepoint MarksALot on her canines?  And to whom will it be addressed?  AND WHAT WILL MERCY DO WITHOUT IT????  Or alternately, will you bow formally, and say, "Mouth, this is Doctor Vet, who will be attending to you?"  Just a thought...or two...

I really do need professional help.

I am glad that she is better, it is so scary when you don't act like themselves. Didn't she have a cleaning a little while ago? of am I losing it?

No that was Mook. Mercy probably just finished getting her adult teeth. O don't think she had the best first 4 months of life.

How is beautiful Mook doing?
The beautiful elegant panther is doing fine. I need to take pictures of them. It's just been a hellish two weeks. Then the thing with Mercy. The vet suggested this may have been a behavioral reaction as we've had coyotes around the house at night and there may be a stray cat living under our porch. She's at that age where territorial behavior might surface , not a baby anymore and coyotes freak me out.

It might help if my dim with SIL would keep the lids latched on her trash bins.

I'm so glad all the tests came back ok! Poor Mercy... and definitely get on top of the dental stuff. I'm gonna be a freak about that with my youngin's after the last six or seven months. I saw that Oliver had redness on his gumline the other day and felt awful for getting out of line with the tooth brushing. Do you brush Mercy's teeth by chance?

Well we have a tooth brush, toothpaste and it sort of gets in there. It's a work in progress. The attending vet felt it wasn't about tooth brushing so much as her early childhood and care right down to the health of the mother cat.  I have taken the gentle approach thinking that in a kitten we have time to establish routine. I might mention that I don't call Mercy a gibbon for no reason. She is adept with her back paws as her front. Mook I can rather cup in the crook of my arm and she will sit there. Mercy is one big pile of fluff with arms and legs everywhere. We'll see where it goes.

Ha, that sounds so much like Oliver. He HATES having his teeth brush, and his nails clipped even more. They are all adept with the back feet pretty much actually, but your description made me think of Oliver for some reason. I decided to just go for it with them. No getting used to it kinda stuff. They'd never get used to it, they just aren't like that. I just need to get them re-used to it because I slacked big-time when Sara got sick.

Definitely wish I knew all my kitties' lives before they came into mine. More for health reasons than anything else, so I can completely relate.

Okay; so I sent the photos to the dentist, Dr. Bannon;  she states that most likely the gingival tissue was pushed aside when the adult teeth erupted.  SO, let us proceed with the dentistry here!  I will take full mouth x-rays and do scaling and polishing as well as trim the gingival tissue.

My next available date is June 29th (Wednesday)…how does that day work for you?  Drop off by 7-8 am; no breakfast (no food past midnight); water is okay….

Let me know!

From Dr. Nolan by the time I got home from Albuquerque.

So we'll get her taken care of. Cause we love Widdle Merthy May.

I know what you mean about the arms and legs everywhere.  Hekitty looks like one of those cartoons of a fight...the rolling ball in the middle, with arms and legs sticking out randomly!  She is not fond of oral hygiene,  Or baths.  Or nail clipping.  Or her flea meds.  She does like to be brushed.  YAY...I WIN ONE!

I've only just found this thread and have been reading it for over an hour. Before I carry on, is her collar not too lose?
It looks exactly like my Maple's looks on her! For being such a big girl, Maple must have a super-skinny neck. Thinking Mercy might have a skinny neck too.

It looks scarey incase it catches on something and doesn't open.

I noticed I started reading this ages ago but had forgotten all of it.
I think maybe shrinks should be standing in the wings. Smile.
