That is a very fine blue rug you have there @jqtiang  , it begs to have toes snuggled in on that soft belly fur section.  If only your foot and toes would remain in one piece should you rest your feet there....

Mouse is almost like a Ragdoll cat when he gets picked up:  unless I am trying to clip his claws or put him in his carrier, at which point he stretches out to as long as possible (about a meter long)
.   He just relaxes in and waits for belly rubs and kisses.
My previous 2 tabby females hated being picked up until they were really old but I did persist in picking them up very briefly for as long as they would tolerate - yes because I loved snuggling them but more because I had to be able to handle them for medications and getting in to their carrier.  They were not as well brought up as Mouse, their fur-mom had taught them how to use their teeth AND claws and they didn't hold back.

They were reasonably good as long as I didn't actually hold on to them so they could feel more in control - kind of sitting on my arm and able to jump off quickly.

mservant mservant Aww. Mouse sounds really sweet. He's been so affectionate since you got him? But oh well. All of them have their own character. I've learnt to accept her not wanting petting much. But I still do to her a few times a day and she'll just walk away a few steps and lie down again while staring at me. Haha.

@jqtiang   Mouse has always been a hopeless case when it comes to belly rubs, and in fact for about the first 3 years I had him he would roll over on to his side and look at me until I got up and gave him belly rubs every single morning.
He'd start sort of curled up and as I rubbed round his belly he would gradually stretch out until he was stretched right out on his back and I'd have to rub up and down from his neck to his lower belly.  He'd lay like that for several minutes sometimes, until he had had enough pampering and only then leap up and point towards his food bowl.
He didn't come near my lap until he was about 3 years old though, and if I lifted him and up put him there he'd leap straight off.
He was far too busy bouncing off the walls and being a general pest when he was a youngster to spend any time snuggling with people.   He is getting better and sometimes comes and sits on my arms while I'm typing on my laptop, but I don't think he has ever stayed up there for more than 10 minutes and it is usually much less.

There are some seriously cuddly blue/grey cats here in this thread.

I don't understand why people clip their cat's claws. I never do. They do a good job honing them on scratching posts and pads.I find old sheaths of claws on the carpet all the time. So why would I clip them? Somebody on either this or another thread said because otherwise their claws would curve and grow back into their pads. What's with that? My cats don't have a problem with that. Will somebody please explain that?????????????

I've never heard of a cats nails curling into their pads like a dogs would, but if I didn't clip my cats nails occasionally,I'd be one giant scratch. My cats like to knead me and use me as a cat tree, so it just makes my life a little easier. Plus I've noticed that if I don't clip their Freddy Krueger claws, they have a hard time walking on carpet as their claws constantly get stuck.

@segelkatt   It was probably my posting about claws that you read:  I have seen it happen on TV vet programmes though do think it is extreme and with indoor only cats as they are not usually walking and climbing on surfaces that wear their claws down.   When cats use scratching posts and similar they are not wearing their claws down but are in fact sharpening them, taking off the dead outer layers of the nail.   Nice shiny, sharp claws for getting up to cat-business.
With Mouse, he is indoors only, loves to sharpen his claws on his various scratching posts and cat trees, and those claws of his are very hard and fast growing.  If they're not clipped every couple of weeks they start to stick out from his paws even when retracted and get caught in things inadvertantly, including my skin when he stretches up on my legs / body.  He doesn't use his claws to hold on to anything so they start to get in his way - he holds on to everything with his digits but keeping his claws retracted for some (cute) reason.

Here's a photo of Mouse climbing on a radiator, planning to jump up on to the top of a door.....   note how he's holding on to that radiator (not a claw in sight) clever cat.  Those paws give great pawsages.

I have carpet throughout most of the apartment but also ceramic tile from the front door and back to both bedrooms, sort of a "T". I do not hear any of my cats nails clicking on the tile and I don't hear them catching on the carpet. The scratching posts and part of the tree are covered with sisal and I have corrugated cardboard scratchers also that they use.

The only time I hear claws is when Panthera wants a door opened and he pounds on the door, I hear the claws sliding down the door but he has never put a scratch on the finish (some kind of lacquer I think).

So are my cats weird or do they find some other way to wear down their claws so that I don't have to cut them?

I have played with all their toes, spreading them out which they don't seem to mind, (besides poor little Bebe who has no front claws, no, I did not do that!!!, she objects to toe examinations by biting) and have run my hand over the underside of their paws and never even feel their claws, real velvet paws. The only time I feel claws is when Capucchino wants to knead my chest and those little scimitars go right through my clothes. That's when I hold her front paws while she is kneading and I feel the claws in my hands, not enough to break skin but she's happy and leaves after a few minutes.

Mine is an indoor cat. I need to clip her nails because whenever I prepare her food, she'll stand up while holding onto my leg for support. Can feel her sharp claws poking at my leg. Haha. And when she plays on my bed, she would get too excited and accidentally tear my pillow case.

@segelkatt   I suspect it was a combination of the type of carpet (looped pile), timing with when claws were quite long, and my poor little Pal getting a fright, but she was the kitty who managed to pull out one of claws and left it caught in the carpet when running out of the sitting room one new years eve....
I changed my decor to sanded floorboards and rugs shortly afterwards, and would hate to see any other cat of mine go through a similar experience.  It isn't common but no doubt very painful.
It was probably that experience that made me more concious of keeping my indoor only cats' claws well clipped.    I have friends who have indoor cats who never clip their cats' claws and have never had problems.    What ever works for you and your cats I think.

Mouse (and my former tabby pair) claws are clipped regularly but it is also something I make sure is not traumatic by getting them used to it from a young age, and will clip without holding them if I can.   Plenty of discussion threads about this in Care and Grooming as well as Health, with different viewpoints and tips on claw care.  Anyone who thinks well clipped and blunted claws don't do as much dammage to skin should think again in my experience:  when Snowleopard, my vet - phobic RIP tabby was at the vet on one occasion she managed to make a huge L shaped slice in the back of the vet's hand despite being heavily sedated and claws clipped and rounded as much as possible before the visit.    Thankfully Mouse is much calmer and better behaved when handled.

ROFL @Mani   , Sundar's alien eyes have come out on show and his ears have sprouted too.
That box must have amazing powers to uncover his alien features like that.

He's a handsome guy.

she's more tabby than maltese, but she's gray, so maybe that still counts?

this is Ellie, my new foster baby. :)

Any grey cat is welcome here, Haven't you followed all the others from almost black to almost white, silver, blue and every shade in between. Of course your baby belongs on this thread, let's see lots more pics.

  Couldn't agree more.
All special and gorgeous, and all to be celebrated.

@hmckinney  Your latest foster looks like a heart-breaker to me.  Such a sweet, innocent little face (with those mischevous blue cat eyes
).  That perfect 'Who? Me?' expression followed by the 'Go on, you know you want to' look.  Yep, that is a grey kitty for sure.
