A friend of mine is doing it - she specialises in animal paw-traits, and is wonderful at capturing the essence of their characters. I'm really excited to see the preliminary sketches
I've never heard of that. What a great idea. And how sad that there is a need for such a thing! But like you say, it must be very healing to have a portrait like that.
That is very cool. On a totally different level of course it makes me think about the person who does the portraits of children who die in school shootings. Having a portrait of a loved one who has passed is a very healing thing.
We went to measure the cat tower that we are going to buy. It is a 6ft tower that is just beautiful. I really can't wait to find some way to bring it home. We're going to try asking my fiance's sister who has an SUV to help us.

No need to apologize. There's no such thing as "off topic" in the babbling thread. Just because some posts start a conversation doesn't mean you have to follow suit. Babble on about whatever you want.So sorry for your loss, @Losna !!! She looks like such a beautiful sweet girl.
I apologize for this being a bit off topic guys, but I wanted to share something neat I did at work last night. A tiny 5 lbs Yorkie came in with antifreeze poisoning and these days lots of vets use a certain medication to treat it but my hospital doesn't carry it because it's expensive and we don't see too many cases like this. So we treated him the "old school" way... with vodka! Yep! Something about the ethanol that's in hard liquor prevents the ethylene glycol in antifreeze from bonding with a certain enzyme in the body. We keep a bottle of cheap Popov 80 proof vodka on hand for instances like this and we diluted it and gave it IV to this tiny dog. He got pretty drunk but his symptoms improved and the vet expects him to make a full recovery. Isn't that crazy? Stuff like this why I love the medical field and is one of the many reasons I absolutely love my job. Just had to share that with you guys.
I agree. Always better to support local business whenever possible. Amazon is taking over the world! [emoji]128512[/emoji]Amazon definitely has some great cat towers. We just want to support a local person who builds cat towers out of driftwood. Especially since they are beautiful.
hahaha. That would be hillarious to see drunken camels. It amazes me, at times, the things people come up with to do something illegal. They're pretty smart people. Imagine if they used that brain power for good things. Of course, if the smuggled liquor saved an animal from poisoning, that would be a good thing.Hi everyone.
Just catching up with this thread now.
@Losna
I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. She had a wonderful long life with you. Passing away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family really was the best way for her to go..
@CatLadyVetTech
Your story reminded me of a tale I heard while I was backpacking in Pakistan. Alcohol is illegal there, but it gets smuggled across the border from India by camel. According to our guide they smuggle it out of India by packing the camels panniers full of contraband liquor, tie all the camels together and then get them drunk. Drunk camels get really energetic so they take them to the edge of the desert and let them gallop across to Pakistan. By the time they've sobered up and slowed down they're across the border and there's a guy waiting at the other side to catch them and unpack all the smuggled booze. Apparently nothing goes faster than a drunk camel over sand, so even if the police try to chase after them in their jeeps they've got no chance of catching up.
I'm not sure if this is true or not, but the image of a train of drunk camels, stampeding across the desert is one I cherish.
Maybe it came to a halt once it sobered up and took a long drink of water to overcome the resulting hangover.
I love the story of the drunken camels. And camels do run very fast. When I was little, my family lived in Pakistan for 3 years. This was a long time ago, before it became so dangerous. It is a stunningly beautiful country and has tremendous beaches, although you don't usually think of beaches and Pakistan in the same breath. One time when we were at the beach, I was standing in the sand and my little brother, who I was supposed to be watching, was standing in the water when there was a tremendous flurry and suddenly a camel ran down the beach, followed by his irate caretaker who was yelling at him, probably some pretty fierce insults. My brother was so scared he started to cry - the fear on his face still haunts me to this day. I wanted to get to him but couldn't because this out of control camel was galloping between us. It was over in a flash but seemed like forever before I could rescue my little brother. Whew! Makes my heart race all these years later.I never did find out what happened to the camel.
