A friend of mine is doing it - she specialises in animal paw-traits, and is wonderful at capturing the essence of their characters. I'm really excited to see the preliminary sketches :hyper:

That is very cool. On a totally different level of course it makes me think about the person who does the portraits of children who die in school shootings. Having a portrait of a loved one who has passed is a very healing thing.

I've never heard of that.  What a great idea.  And how sad that there is a need for such a thing!  But like you say, it must be very healing to have a portrait like that.

I've been busy catching up after an afternoon at work today and see we have had a 2000 winner, and lots of lovely rule breaking to pass the time today.
What fun.  I did do my modly duties before I ran out to work earlier and participated in the hard work of deciding on which post should be awarded the 2000 prize.  Had to get my priorities right - babble thread or paid employment.
I did manage to get to work with a few minutes to spare so all is good.

@Losna   I am really sorry to hear about Lila.  What a lovely photo you posted of her.  Paper bags are such wonderful cat dens.
Sounds like she had a pretty amazing life, and 22 is a good number of years for her to wrap around your heart and make sure she will never leave.   May Sinbad and Tempest bring back happy memories of Lila every day.

For me my two days off are just beginning and for Monday I have no plans other than a little tidying and cleaning, a lot of annoying Mouse, and a lot of time on TCS.  Tuesday I get my hair cut so will have to remember and not spend all day annoying Mouse and on TCS.

Babbling seems to have really slowed down.  Where did everybody go?  Even my kitties have disappeared into the next room.  I think they have gone to bed for the night (it is almost 10PM here on the east coast of the US)

We went to measure the cat tower that we are going to buy. It is a 6ft tower that is just beautiful. I really can't wait to find some way to bring it home. We're going to try asking my fiance's sister who has an SUV to help us.

I would love to have a multilevel cat tower for my guys but I'd have the same problem you're having getting it home. I knew I shouldn't have given my old van to the U.S. Humane Society. Guess I'll order mine on Amazon.

Amazon definitely has some great cat towers. We just want to support a local person who builds cat towers out of driftwood. Especially since they are beautiful.

Wow, the driftwood cat tower sounds really nice.
Definitely ordering from amazon is a good idea too. That's what I do if something is too heavy or bulky. I even have a pretty large car. Due my back hurting sometimes, it's the best option! Pretty comparable prices as well.

That driftwood tower sounds amazing! As it's a local person, would he/she consider delivering it for you - possibly if you offer to pay a delivery charge it would help.

So sorry for your loss, @Losna !!! She looks like such a beautiful sweet girl.

I apologize for this being a bit off topic guys, but I wanted to share something neat I did at work last night. A tiny 5 lbs Yorkie came in with antifreeze poisoning and these days lots of vets use a certain medication to treat it but my hospital doesn't carry it because it's expensive and we don't see too many cases like this. So we treated him the "old school" way... with vodka! Yep! Something about the ethanol that's in hard liquor prevents the ethylene glycol in antifreeze from bonding with a certain enzyme in the body. We keep a bottle of cheap Popov 80 proof vodka on hand for instances like this and we diluted it and gave it IV to this tiny dog. He got pretty drunk but his symptoms improved and the vet expects him to make a full recovery. Isn't that crazy? Stuff like this why I love the medical field and is one of the many reasons I absolutely love my job. Just had to share that with you guys. :)
No need to apologize. There's no such thing as "off topic" in the babbling thread. Just because some posts start a conversation doesn't mean you have to follow suit. Babble on about whatever you want. ;)

I would love to see a picture of the driftwood tower.  Sorry I missed a lot of the thread and  it's too late to go back and read the thread and find out who originally posted about it.

I agree. Always better to support local business whenever possible. Amazon is taking over the world! [emoji]128512[/emoji]

Hi everyone.

Just catching up with this thread now.

@Losna  I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. She had a wonderful long life with you. Passing away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family really was the best way for her to go..

@CatLadyVetTech  Your story reminded me of a tale I heard while I was backpacking in Pakistan. Alcohol is illegal there, but it gets smuggled across the border from India by camel. According to our guide they smuggle it out of India by packing the camels panniers full of contraband liquor, tie all the camels together and then get them drunk. Drunk camels get really energetic so they take them to the edge of the desert and let them gallop across to Pakistan. By the time they've sobered up and slowed down they're across the border and there's a guy waiting at the other side to catch them and unpack all the smuggled booze. Apparently nothing goes faster than a drunk camel over sand, so even if the police try to chase after them in their jeeps they've got no chance of catching up.

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but the image of a train of drunk camels, stampeding across the desert is one I cherish.

hahaha. That would be hillarious to see drunken camels. It amazes me, at times, the things people come up with to do something illegal. They're pretty smart people. Imagine if they used that brain power for good things. Of course, if the smuggled liquor saved an animal from poisoning, that would be a good thing.

Right? It makes you wonder what the first person who came up with the idea was trying to do, doesn't it? Why would anyone give their camel alcohol? Did they have any idea what would happen?

I love the story of the drunken camels.  And camels do run very fast.  When I was little, my family lived in Pakistan for 3 years.  This was a long time ago, before it became so dangerous.  It is a stunningly beautiful country and has tremendous beaches, although you don't usually think of beaches and Pakistan in the same breath.  One time when we were at the beach, I was standing in the sand and my little brother, who I was supposed to be watching,  was standing in the water when there was a tremendous flurry and suddenly a camel ran down the beach, followed by his irate caretaker who was yelling at him, probably some  pretty fierce insults.   My brother was so scared he started to cry - the fear on his face still haunts me to this day.  I wanted to get to him but couldn't because this out of control camel was galloping between us.  It was over in a flash but seemed like forever before I could rescue my little brother.   Whew!  Makes my heart race all these years later.
I never did find out what happened to the camel.

Maybe it came to a halt once it sobered up and took a long drink of water to overcome the resulting hangover.
That would have been scary - camels are huge, and must have seemed even bigger as small kids with it running past.

The driftwood cat tower sounds gorgeous @NewYork1303.  I hope you manage to get it and can post a photo for us all to see.
