Tony doesn't have an appetite and is not himself. Last time he had a blood infection. He's hiding under the couch now --- will call the vet and take him in tomorrow. He is 14 and I worry about him!
I'm so sorry for the news. Hopefully there will be improvement. Does the vet have any ideas for the underlying cause? There can be many causes for severe anemia.Tony update: Dr. Newman called and the news is not good. He is severely anemic; his body is either not making or his body is killing red blood vessels. Doing some more lab work, but in the meantime we just picked up prednizone, will give it to him 3 times a day for 3 weeks. Sometimes they do blood transfusions when the blood count gets even lower (his was 12 - transfusions are done at 10) I honestly don't want to put him thru that procedure. Will see if his appetite picks up and then they will do blood work. I'm mentally prepared for the worst, but I'm really a basket case now as Tony is so very special to us. He is so sweet and gentle.
Sending vibesStephen Q - thank you for the link you sent. It was very informative and reinforced much of what our vet told us. Of course the possibility of cancer is there and frightening, but we'll just take one day at a time and continue with the medication. Will keep everyone posted.
Thank you for your thoughts Carol. I think tomorrow may be the day we have to say goodbye to Tony. He's in bad shape, been sitting in the sink all day and last night. When I picked him up and put him on the floor before he could hardly stand on his legs. Just talked to the vet, he asked if we wanted to bring him in tonight, but we might as well wait until morning. Barring any miracles, I think that will be it Just can't see him go on like this when there is so little hope.Lana and Paul I am sending special good wishes to Tony. I hope he will get thru this and on his way to recovery very soon. We all know what you're going thru and we can only send good wishes to you. Keep us posted.
I am so sorry to hear this Lana, I am hoping for that miracle. We all know that our kitties will tell us when it's time to go. No one lets our kitties suffer, I feel so bad for you and the decision you have to make. Thinking of you.Thank you for your thoughts Carol.
