How to tell if she's a purebred Ragdoll?

I was recently asked to find a home for a cat. Supposedly, her original owners "paid good money" for her, and they said she's a purebred, "papered" Ragdoll. But her papers have been lost . She certainly has very blue eyes, and has the soft longhaired coat and snowshoe-type markings, but she's not especially docile or "floppy". She hates being held, and kicks and jumps away. And she started a fight with Fiona when introductions were attempted (Fiona IS very docile and never starts anything or fights back). And one thing said that Ragdolls always have white chins, and her chin is tan. But of course not all purebreds completely match the breed ideal. Anyway, I don't want to market her as a purebred if she isn't. I'll try to get some pictures up soon. Is there any way to know for sure?

I don't think Ragdolls have always white chins.... Lucky is one, Seal Lynx Point, and she doesn't - because on that color, the chin is light tan.... The personality depends on a number of things also - including on where they came from, and how they were raised. Bugsy, also a ragdoll, is amazingly docile, but NOT a lap cat. He does the Ragdoll Flap - Lucky doesn't. You can pretty much do whatever you want with both of them, but they have very different personalities. It is said that some can get quite unfriendly when raised in a breeding mill type of situation, in cages and with poor socialization. Before being ragdolls, they are cats.... Lucky is definitely and alpha, and she does get snappy. Bugsy is known to give a few jumps to bite around the house if he feels cornered..... They are very very VERY sweet, but they are also, as I said, cats, and will act like so.

She can definitely be a bi-color ragdoll... see this link for patterns of that color - Beautiful girl! :heart3:

VERY pretty girl!  I'd think you can find her a home relatively easily.  Even Sophie (pure Himi) with health/behavioral issues did have some applications & a lot of interest.  No one wanted her once they realized she blows snot all the time & sometimes poops on the floor, though. lol

Are Ragdolls supposed to be splotchy? All the cats in the pics I see online don't seem to be splotchy. But then I suppose most pics are of show cats, not pet-quality. This isn't the best picture, but it shows her splotchiness.

Her pattern is not the best, which makes her pet quality, not show.
Bugsy is Purebred, and all white, a color that is not accepted for show at all.... yet, purebred, CFA registered.... Just a "trend" that the breeder wanted to achieve - some breeders now want to breed white raggies.
In your girl's case, just looks like an imperfect pattern - wouldn't make her any less of a ragdoll - I can see the picture better now, totally looks like one!!

Yes, she does look like a Ragdoll to me. Gorgeous girl. How old is she?

My Great Aunt has a Ragdoll, very well bred and amazing. This is a picture of him from this past July and he was only 1 year old. Note his size, Ragdolls are traditionally very large.

Are you in contact with the owners? If so please suggest they get in touch with their breeder first before rehoming this girl.

While she does appear to be a Raggie, unless you have papers proving it it's really not right to advertise her as a purebred.

About Bugsy, yep, I know - I think New Zealand is one of the Countries in that list.... Not in the US though - (They accept for registering here, but not for showing)

I'm not in contact with the original owners. They used to live here but moved. The person who had her before got her from the original owner's mother. . .etc. Poor kitty has been around a few times, and she's only about 2-3. I would like to find the breeder, but, to be honest, anybody who would sell a kitten to those people is probably not responsible enough to take back their cats. The original owners have a bad track record. . .when they lived here, they went through 3 dogs and who-knows-how-many cats, and they were only here a couple years. I might try to dig around some more, but chances are slim. I might have the vet check for a microchip. . .I hear some breeders 'chip the cats in their name before selling them.

I woudn't advertise her as definitely a purebred. . .I'd just tell the potential adopters what I know--that the original owners said she was purebred but I don't know for sure. I wouldn't want them to have nurealistic expectations about her personality, anyway. And since she's spayed (and de-clawed ), it doesn't really matter, I guess.

Besides, she might stay in the family. My mom loves her and wants to keep her (but my dad probably wouldn't agree to it--this would make 5 cats for them). And my grandma recently lost her kitty to mouth cancer, and I think this one would be good (except she thinks cats should always be allowed outside, and I don't know if we could convince her that a de-clawed cat shouldn't). Anyway, I'm sure I can find her a home.

I'm no expert, but she does look like a Ragdoll to me.  She's a beautiful cat and I agree that she shouldn't be hard to home.  My nurse supervisor has a purebred Ragdoll and she is gorgeous, but she doesn't have the typical Ragdoll purrsonality.  According to my supervisor, Miss Kitty doesn't "melt" when picked up, either.

Oh, she's fine. She's living in a bedroom at my mom's house and seems perfectly happy. My brother is looking into his apartment's requirements for having a cat. But we've all been busy with work and school (my brother is a student) so nothing has really been done.

Funny someone is using her picture. I just was reading through this thread and was wondering how she is doing now? And if it matters at all a couple years too late I do think she looks very much like a pet quality ragdoll.

She's OK. Her litterbox habits aren't super :/. Probably due to being de-clawed. And she still beats up the other cats :lol3:. But she's doing fine.
