I'm fostering a cat rescued by an animal rescue from a vet hoarding situation. He's been eating raw which is what I feed my cats. Their stools are perfect raw food stools, solid, every 1-2 days and not smelly.
This cat has been on raw (chicken) for nearly two weeks and we are still having poopy issues (He was on whatever dry kibble they were giving him at the rescue and his poop was even worse). He rubs it all over my carpet which is really frustrating cos I have to scrub it every day -_- He's at my house because he has an upper respiratory infection but any research I've done doesn't list diarrhea as a symptom. the rescue already took him to the vet and that's the only thing they found wrong with him. I've tried plain yogurt and also organic plain puree pumpkin on suggestions but no results.
I asked the animal rescue volunteer who supervises and she said it could just be that he's still really jacked up from all the meds that they "messed him up with" at the vets. Doesn't really add up to me, any other suggestion I can try?
He goes once a day or sometimes once every two days, sometimes its just loose and occassionaly its really runny. The smell has gotten less terrible though. Maybe its taking him this long to adjust to raw? When I switched my cats to raw their stool was fixed the day of.
If I cant find a solution I'm going to tell the supervisor to take the cat to the vet again or trying handling it herself. I'm still irritated at them that they didn't tell me about this and also that when they gave him to me he was FILLED with fleas that they didn't mention. I got rid of all of them before he passed them on to my kitties luckily.
Other than that he's been a very happy, playful and social cat thanks to the comfort zone pheromones that turned him into a completely new cat!
