Hi there, sorry to barge in without ever being on this forum before... but I have 2 bengal kittens with some issues and I tried going to the vet today and came back not too happy. But have an appointment with the my regular vet Monday.
So... 2 bengal kittens, from same breeder, but not the same litter although they both have the same sire as father - Neko my boy is 14 weeks old and My female Snooki is 12 weeks old.
I purchased from the breeder 10 days apart Neko first, 10 days later Snooki - we weren;t planning on getting Snooki right away, but we definately wanted to have 2 cats and we figured that with toilet training Neko and him doing so good we rather get all the kitten stuff outta the way.
Both kittens came from the breeder on Hills Science Diet for kittens and canned food I have never found anywhere local. I did quite a bit of reading on ingredients and what to feed and not feed your cats and came to the conclusion that I did not like Science Diet as it contained meat by product among other igredients I felt did not compare to Wellness kitten or Blue. We settled on wellness as with blue someone pointed out that the bag contains a balanced diet, but if your cat doesn;t like the blue bits, the balanced diet is not so balanced anymore (which made sense). We slowly moved Neko to wellness and he was fine on it by the time we got Snooki on Sept 18th.
A few days after getting Snooki (who pretty much had diarrhea since day one) Neko started having diarrhea also. I chalked it up to her kinda abruptly changing foods as it is hard to transition one while the other is on a differnet food and for both the stress of having a new cat in the home... or being in a new home for her... which was stressful as they did not get along right from the get go.
Took Snooki to the vet a week after Neko and got a test on their stool done which came back clean - so I figured the diarrhea would clear up. Last Friday Neko pood a clear mucus substance (nothing about it looked or resembled poo) being that it was late and Thanksgiving weekend here, I searched the internet and it looked like this could be caused from a change in diet and or stress... and a recommendation of boiled chicken breast with a small amount of cooked plain rice to settle the tummy. I did this... still leaving the wellness dry out for them... and within 24 hours his poo started to look promising, still liquidy... but at the end he had what looked more like a "log". However this lasted only the day and we were back to just plain old liquid poo. On Tuesday I called the vet and he suggested I keep him on my chicken and rice concogtion, but to also give them a teaspoon of lactose free, low fat probiotic yougurt 2 times a day... since they would not eat this on it's own I was mixing it in their food... again within 24 hours it looked promising and then back to liquid for Neko (All this while Snookie has loose stool, but not liquid).
On a side note... Neko also has a spot under his chin which he has had since we got him, but I recently started to notice it is getting bigger almost doubled in size... and about 3mm x 4mm now I took a pic with my camera and zoomed in and it looks awful.
Yesterday I called the vet again and advised things weren't getting better and made an appointment for this afternoon, But we didn't see our regular vet. Some vet I never seen there before. He was extremely rough with my kittens which I was not liking very much and without knowing for sure what they have decided to treat Snooki for giardia, except Snooki spit out the initial 3ml of medicine and strawberry nesquick syrup he shot down her throat and his response was to grab her by the nape of the neck and jam the syringe down her throat roughly while my kitten was just oozing this red stuff all down her face and coat! I quickly grabbed Neko stuck him in the carrier and told him to stop and grabbed her asked for a cloth to wipe her mouth with and put her also in the carrier and announced I no longer wished him to care for my cats and I wanted to see a dfferent vet.
Now, don;t get me wrong... I am not one of these fru fru people that are offended with every little thing, but this guy had no idea if my cats een had giardia and to be THAT forceful with a treatment for something they may or may not have just did not sit well with me.
Previous to this episode I also showed him the photo of the spot which he insisted ay first happened while they were playing and when I told him he had it when we first got him but that it was so tiny i just thought it was another brown spot just like all the others he has being a bengal... he quickly told me "well then it's ring worm"
I am traumatized by this experience and NEVER want to see this guy again. But in the meantime... does anyone know what could be causing this diarrhea? Could it be related to the spot under his chin? I know it may in fact be giardia and his stool is gone to the lab for testing... so I should know by Monday when I go back to see a proper vet, but the poor guy is having such a hard time with pooing I just would like any shared experiences anyone has or thoughts on what could be causing this?
Thank a bunch and sorry for the super long read!
