It could be coincidental although when I looked at a few drug sites both were listed as being meloxicam with no filler being listed which doesn't mean that is the whole story. Is this the first day that food has not been eaten willingly?

Yes, first time...I gave him omeprasole yesterday and he is much better...He seems to be back to himself, ate normally...
He must have been poorly for few days, as his appetite was poor, but only yesterday he turned away from his bowl...
I booked him to the local vet for Monday, as he is supposed to have his blood rechecked for anemia so I will talk to the vet...
I feel sad for medicating him, but I have no other choice...

Just spoke to the vet and they were a bit surprised when I wanted metacam Vs loxicom. It is almost as if they do not acknowledge that there may be a different formulation...

Don't feel bad for using medication that is necessary and give a much better quality of life. I had a GSD who lived to 16, which is some kind of a record for his breed, who was on heavy duty medication for the last 7 years of his life. It was what kept him going and made him feel better.

He has been so much happier today! Playing, purring, eating...
I actually noted this decline just after stopping omeprasole and it was getting worse and worse...last few days he spent so lethargic...
I also requested metacam instead of loxicom, as I defined see the difference...I know both contain meloxicam but definitely different fillers, as metacam smells differently...

Going to the vet tomorrow for a full blood check up and general check up.
A bit worried, although he had been much better since reinstating omeprasole...
Just hope no more ulcerations in his mouth...

This was a bit traumatic...he was only sedated on this occasion and had a blood sample taken. Some parameters are showing a borderline kidney function, which is most likely to using all the meds last year + metacam long term (I will try to taper it again)...
Post procedure, his left eye looks sore and half opened...I hope this will improve with time...
He ate two bowls of food over night, some food in the morning and he is sleeping now...
Appears a bit on guard, even hides under the bed, as if unsure what may happen again...
He is such a soft cat, really gentle, and very sensitive...
I feel almost cruel and my heart cries for him...he was so groggy yesterday, but still wanted to walk and jump on a chair... eventually I held him like a baby in my arms and he slept in this position...He generally does not like to be held or even stroked, but he had been much better than in the beginning with me. I don't know what must have happened when he was a little up to his one year...not much social interaction + I think he must have been treated badly, as he is afraid of "acting like a cat" (for example, never tries to throw anything from the hight. When he does something accidentally, he almost looks as if waiting for me to shout at him...)...
Feeling sad today, for his experience that I was unable to protect him from the pain and strange people and surroundings...

How is the eye now? I do believe that cats and dogs live in the present more than most humans are able, but I have also never believed that they completely forget bad treatment. Poor little guy.

We had to use the eye drops eventually, and it is already better. It seems it was unrelated to the procedure.
He is much better today.
I need to find a natural way of managing his conditions as the meds have impacted his kidneys...

They suggested to do another one in a month, but I am not going to expose him to this additional stress and sedation...

I wrote to a few vet practices explaining the problem, but got some responses that they do not deal with FOPS...seems that vets are not prepared to deal with anything beyond basic problems....

Received answer from the pain clinic. So we scheduled appointment for 22nd Feb.
There is no urgency, but I want a second opinion from someone who specifically specialise in the pain.
He is not completely well...I am worried that it may be due to a long term on metacam...Unsure if omeprasole really works...
Waiting for a slippery elm parcel, so we will start him on syrup. Also received today Feline Git soothe, any inflammatory...so will start slowly ...

I suppose being told up front that a clinic does not deal with FOPS is better than making the drive and then finding out that they aren't really up to the job, but still little consolation.

This was the reason why I wrote to few clinics with few questions about his presentation in order to make a good decision...
Our Monday visit to the local vet was just a nuisance, we got nothing from it, additionally he took gabapentin in the morning and then was sedated...

He is acting a bit strange at the moment...hiding under the bed in the morning and I think he may be avoiding his morning meds, namely metacam.
I am in two minds about metacam myself, wonder if I could just stop...he had been on this for five months...
I think it is affecting his stomach...
He is still eating, but a bit less than normally...
Don't know what to do and I do not trust my local vets...

Strange behaviour since yesterday, hiding under the bed and no purring at all...
Eats normally, looks normal with his tail up but puffed up, responds with some fear to any unknown noise...
He may come to my bed, cuddles, but when I get up he quickly gets under the bed...
I don't know what to do anymore. Since the unfortunate visit to the vet he had been more alert, the visit was on Monday, he got additional gabapentin in the morning and then was sedated...when back home he was unable to walk at first...but then slowly recovered...
Could his anxiety and hiding be a type of a delayed response?
I remember he stopped purring before, which stopped after b12 shot...
I have him additionally buprenorphine, but he is still under the bed now...
Few minutes before scoffed quite a portion of his favourite raw salmon...
As I said, I see no impact on his appetite...

I wonder if he is just wary of being given anything or handled for the same reasons. The fact that he is eating, but hiding, is what makes me wonder if he is on high alert.
The new clinic looks very interesting with the entire page on pain management and the bio of the doctor who specializes in that area. I have done acupuncture on two different dogs, for what it is worth. Unfortunately, they can't tell you how much it helped, but it did not do any harm. It is a valid form of pain relief and certainly might help. How far away is this clinic?
