Hello, so im sure many people have had this problem, smelly cat poop. I know alot of the time it has to do with food. I fees my cats a pretty good cat food but it still smells. I have two and since im taking on a 3rd im getting a little more self conscious of the smell, especially since i live in an apartment.

So to start i fees my cats 4 health grain free cat food from tractor supply, ive also fed Wellness back in the day. Still smelly. Ive recently been thinking of switching to "taste of the wild" in hopes that would help.

So first questions i feed kibble and id like to keep it tht way. So what kiddle would you suggest that isnt crazy expensive. Taste of the wild is like 1.25 per pound.

Litter:
I use arm&hammer bacteria blocking litter. Any other i should try that might help? Ive mostly always used arm&hammer but i once used a cat litter called "worlds best cat litter" and i swore by it. But everyone that came over said it smelled bad in my place, but i couldnt smell it hahaha.

So to recap
What kibble should I Try and what litter should i try. Thanks!

If you switch to raw there will be absolutely no odor whatsoever.  None.

I can attest to the fact that you can put your head in the liter box and you won't be able to smell a thing.

If you choose to go this route, just do your research.  Raw done wrong can be dangerous for your cat.

Re: litter. I use Worlds Best in conjunction with a litter genie:

https://www.chewy.com/litter-genie-...ie&utm_term=&gclid=CP3B3uLZ58wCFRSPfgodSYwKaQ

Once the clumps/poo go in the litter genie, they are never smelled again. Everyone who comes in my apartment (one bedroom so not huge) swears they would never know I have a cat. These are unsolicited opinions so I don't think they're just trying to be nice!
So is the litter genie a poop and scoop kind of thing?

Are you feeding dry exclusively?  It is ideal to feed all wet/raw, but many people feed a combination of dry and wet.  Fancy Feast Classics are a budget-friendly grain-free low-carb food.

Like @HelloMissKitty, I use Litter Genies (I have one by each of our three litter boxes).  It is quite effective at containing odors.  You can find more information at their website: http://www.littergenie.com/

Target, Petco, PetSmart, Amazon, etc. carry the Litter Genie.  It's really easy to find.

Yes. You scoop the clumps and poo and drop into the litter genie. It has a bag lining system inside. When the bag inside is full, you remove the bag and throw away. It's very easy to use.

This is not really what the thread is about so I won't go into this any further, but you should read Dr. Pierson's website on cat nutrition (http://catinfo.org/).  Feeding a dry-food-only diet is not ideal for cats, even if they are a healthy weight.

If you feed less dry food, you'll also find that your kitties will poop less.

There are commercial raw pet food options now that makes it really easy to feed a raw diet
Just wanted you to be aware of that if you didn't already know. Rad Cat, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, and Nature's Variety Instinct are some popular brands. Commercial raw is available as frozen, freeze dried, air dried, and dehydrated.

Many members of TCS are not fans of a 100% dry food diet. Including some canned food in the diet is doable for many people. It doesn't need to be an expensive brand. Something like Fancy Feast or Friskies or a store generic brand are affordable. What some people do is feed canned food when they are at home and leave out a measured amount of dry when they are not home. Maybe this is something you can do.

Yeah, unfortunately the poop is always going to be stinky with dry food because of all the filler.  There has to be filler, even if it's grain free, in order to get the pieces to stick together.

What did you find annoying about raw?  If we're talking solely about smell, it is a truly significant decrease.  Wet food with minimal filter also produces much less stinky poo.

I'll also add that especially for a kitten, he needs to be eating wet food while he's growing.  Dry isn't enough.

Raw with my puppy was a pain. Unfreezing just enough that she would eat before it would go bad, getting in unfrozen in time and then the fact of getting it. Aside from the local pet store which charges out the wa ho for it the closet place to get rawnin bulk is over 3 hours away and they dont ship. I much prefer opening a can of food or a bag of food then doing raw.

Wet food is just fine! And there is also freeze-dried raw, which you might find more convenient than frozen raw.

Ok so I have a 2 cat home and for us this is what we have found to work...

Purina Cat Chow Naturals indoor formula...there is barely an odor when either one go poo...and I have a nose like a dog..

Litter: Scoop Away Complete....my house never smells like cats live here...

Hope those 2 suggestions help...when we were in France and had to use something else there was a notable difference.

I also clean out litter boxes everyday and I have 2 for 2 cats...so if your thinking of adding a 3rd cat make sure you have at least 2 boxes but ideally 3 even 4 boxes is better...cats love a clean litter box...it also helps reduce possibility of accidents...

If you live in the states and have a Costco membership you can get a 42 pound bag of the litter for less than $15 depending where you live...when I lived in Hawaii it was almost $15 here in Florida it is less than $12...I have also found that Walmart has the best deal for the cat food I get a 13 pound bag for around $11 and they do carry a bigger bag I think 20 pounds at around $15 depending on where you live...

Ok hope this helps be blessed

That's the litter I use. too
I get the huge bag from BJs for about $12. Both of my cats eat raw so there is no litter box odor... until my Aby poops
Abys have really sensitive tummies so their poop generally smells even on a raw diet.

Scooping at least once a day is a must. You can place non toxic pet safe odor absorbers near the litter box to help with any odors. Some people like to mix a little plain baking soda into the litter as well. Aviod the perfumed litter box deodorizers you see at the pet store. Csts have really sensitive noses and may refuse to use a litter box that is heavily perfumed.
