Zoomies!

Have finally figured out my elderly cat’s wants and needs! 1. He wants to get buzzed on the nip. 2. While listening to “Music for Cats.” 3. Adores being pushed around AT HIGH SPEED on round tatami mats. He actually asks me to do it! And it’s great exercise. For anyone else struggling to give their cat fun in his or her golden years, it’s not so much about the stuff…it’s about being present and the participation. He hasn’t got the youth to…do everything, but he definitely more than anything else adores zoomie rides.

Willow, who will be 12 in May, used to love to play with wand toys until she was three or four. After that she just had no interest. But she still has the zoomies almost every night, running the length of the house at breakneck speed and then stopping to howl at the walls. It only lasts one or two runs though before she is tired out but she will spend some time rolling balls or knocking cat springs around.

Yes, it’s a very loud guttural howl and very often it’s followed by a hiss. It’s her imaginary play at being fierce - the exact opposite of what she actually is.
