about a year back we have a very upsetting time with some cats. an old man had died in one of the flats near where we lived. he had more than 9 cats in his flat all who had been fending for themselves for years and were all in a state. the animal charity had collected 7 of them however 2 just kept escaping capture. we later realised that the 2 cats who had found home in the bins opposite our basement flat. being a cat lover i started feeding them as seeing them with KFC chicken bones from the streets was heart breaking. after 2 months they started to get friendly and would let me stoke them, shortly after they would come in the window and snooze in our flat. after 5 months we finally gained their trust and we could treat them for fleas and start getting their general health back up. Something wasnt right, we thought doofie may be pregnant and hamley had stopped eating and drinking. We worked with the local cats protection league who helped us get the cats to a vet for a full check up. Then we got the devistating news that hamley had some form of bowel cancer and was put down there and then. Doofie was also unwell and in 3 weeks was put down due to some flea infestation in her guts.
i now dedicate as much time as i can do animal charities, as the story to this day still makes me cry and sooooo mad that cats could have been left in this state in the first place! the good news was the other cats in the flat were rehomed and now i guess live happily every after
