I feed the birds in my backyard and a few days ago I found a very wounded dove.

I am almost positive a cat got it and broke it's wing. I managed to catch it and there was puncture wounds that matched a cat bite perfectly. Most of the primary flight feathers were missing from the wing and the wing was just hanging there bone shattered.

In the end I had to put the dove out of it's misery.

I really wish people would keep their cats indoors or at least supervise them outdoors. It's very upsetting when they harm the birds that I am trying to enjoy watching at the feeders.

It's possible it was a falcon or hawk that missed its mark - we live only 15 miles from downtown and have both those types of birds of prey hunting our neighborhood, and also eating in our back yard a couple times, --which as you can imagine is an amazing, incredible sight.

I have seen the cat lurking around the bird feeders. I highly doubt it was a hawk.

I know where this cat lives as well. The owners just refuse to keep it indoors. It is well fed and clean and I have seen them letting it out when going by in the car.

I scare it off whenever I see it on my property with the garden hose.

I have tried asking them to keep it indoors but a day later I see it again.
