Many many good, healthy vibes for Dottie from a skin cancer survivor
Hope the procedure goes well and the results are good. Any idea what kind of skin cancer it is? Has Dottie already had a positive diagnosis or will they be sending this to pathology?
The local dermatologist had taken a biopsy and sent it off. Diagnosis was basal cell carcinoma. About the size of a pencil eraser, just above and behind her left eyebrow.
They did Mohs surgery, which involved mapping the area, cutting away what they think is cancerous, checking it, and going back to cut away any area that still shows signs of cancer. It has a 99% success rate.
They got most of it on the first try, just one little area to expand. Then they did plastic surgery to hide the scar. The wound was a little bigger than the end of your finger, but the Z-shaped cut to close the wound with minimum scarring was a total of almost 3 inches.
We noted that she now has her own lightning-bolt scar, like Harry Potter.
