Most here know that my husband & I live, and travel, fulltime in an RV (caravan for those across the pond *wink*).
Both our boys have never known anywhere but - outdoors as a stray for Si, and a shelter for Monty, until they came to share our lives. In both instances of adoption, I would never have considered adopting were we going to "move on" the next day, or even the next week. Each had 5+ months to get comfortable with their new home, and gradually all of the noises that come with owning an RV.
Treats & lots of reassurance as they came to understand the noise of cranking the engine, putting awnings in or out, ACs running, etc. They also go on the occasional car ride (not to the vet) just to be praised & get a treat to keep that sort of movement familiar. I think they have adjusted pretty darn well for our lifestyle.
Si was pretty much bomb-proof from day one and Monty came along very quickly as well. I think seeing how Big Brother reacted, or not in most instances, helped reassure him that nothing crazy was going on for him to be scared of. Still in his house, still with his people.
The following sequence of pix are our recent trip back to Texas from Colorado.
Day 1 - from Colorado to Santa Fe, NM - Monty is such a chair hog, always has been. Si likes to put my legs to sleep by napping on them for hours.
Day 2 - Santa Fe to Amarillo, TX - It's not Si still sleeping .. just another day of napping on my person. Monty, on the other hand, likes to keep inching me off the passenger chair by stretching out; making faces at me while he does it. LOL
Day 3 - Amarillo to Dallas/Fort Worth - Today revealed their careful plot -- to scootch Mom COMPLETELY out of her chair. Do either of them appear to care?
There was a point in the day that Monty made his way into the window hammock for a little sunshine where he promptly chimed in on American Woman by The Guess Who. This has cracked me up every day since. I could not believe the timing of both the song & his yawn.
