Hello all -

I'm new to this forum and have a rather urgent question:

I rescued an abandoned mom who gave birth to a litter of 7 on
May 13. We have an appointment to have her spayed on Tuesday.
Should we separate her from the kittens before this appointment
to let her milk dry up? What process of separation will put the least
amount of stress on both mom and kittens? Any advice on separating
the litter will be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Are the kittens eating solid food and drinking water now?

BTW...thanks so much for rescuing this girl and also getting her spayed.

Yes, the kittens have been eating solid food & drinking water
for several weeks now and are all full of beans.

Sorry, I'm no good at these forums, I always hit send too early -

The kittens are all weaned from mom and we've begun placing them
in homes, so eating/drinking and litter box usage are not issues
(they do both with gusto!) I'd use the spay appointment as the
separation point, except the low-cost vet we're using has said they
won't do the surgery until mom's milk has dried up. We figured on
separating them tonight to allow that to happen, but of course
mom & kittens are both agitated (as they can still smell and hear
each other.)

What should we do? Thanks -

Have you thought about calling a vet clinic for recommendations....I honestly haven't been faced with a situation along those lines. Sometimes there are clinics open 24 hours and they probably wouldn't have an issue with you calling and asking them a question along these lines.
