Hello friends, we have a question about one of our kittens.

Our calico cat had a litter of 9 (NINE!!!) kittens a week ago and everyone of the kittens seems to be doing fine, except for one that seems like he/she is lagging behind in growth. We have been helping our cat nurse by feeding the smaller kittens kitten suplement bought at the pet store and that helped the smaller kittens gain size and strenght on the 4 "bulllies" of the litter.

There is one kitten though, "Tiny", that does not seem to gain weight and size like the rest of the litter, he seems fine and strong but at this time he is only about half the size of his siblings, and he has a red sore/rash under his chin and it also seems like he lost one of his claws on his right front paw.

the rash is fairly large and we do not know if we should leave it alone or try to treat it with something.

any suggestions?

The kittens are a week old and this is the runt of the litter. We have not taken "tiny" to the vet as we just noticed the sore the night before last. We have started suplimenting her feeding with kitten formula and she is starting to grow. She is definately a fighter and a strong little one.
As for spaying the mother, we want to do that ASAP but we were told that we had to wait until she is done nursing by a relative. That only seemed to make sense to us.
Thanks for the list but none of these are even remotely close to us.
How long before I can get her spayed, do you know?

"tiny" is still tiny, but she is quite the survivor. Her sore is getting better slowly. However, I noticed that one of the larger kittens has a sore on the corner of her mouth now. It does not appear to be spreading at all. I am wondering if because there are 9 kittens and only 6 nipples if they are fighting for milk. We have been supplimenting their feedings (especially if it appears that someone got left out). "Tiny" although quite small is probably one of the strongest kittens in the litter. Since we started giving her small doses of formula, she has been one of the only ones that is always on MOM. Keep these little ones in your prayers, they aren't out of the woods yet. *giggle* keep us in your prayers, Mom keeps finding a way outside this time. Last time, she was quite content staying inside until the litter was almost weined. She is scheduled for spaying on Oct.14. The vet said that she needs to have had the kittens fully weined for about 3 weeks before they will spay her. Thanks for your vibes!

"Tiny" was doing quite well but this morning she just wouldn't eat very much. When I went in for her next feeding, she was laying under "mommys-Mesingwe" head and Mesingwe was cleaning her. She was totally lifeless. I burried her at 3:15pm today with a "Native American" touch. She was wrapped in a red fancy cloth and buried with a prayer tie (a cloth with tobacco that has had prayers said while making it".
All other 8 kittens are now 3 times the size "tiny" was and eating and moving around with their eyes open. They all appear to be doing just fine! Thanks everyone for your help and concern.
