Jasper is an orange tabby, and short haired, but he does have an M on his forehead. At least, my husband says he does. I kind of see it. Is it possible he's part Maine Coon? I never saw his mother, and who knows about the father...

Nay, the M on the forehead is common on all tabbies. It has nothing to do with Maine coon. Its only many Maine coon are tabbies, that is why they often has the M.
But I have heard it was a TV-Show in USA, which spread the myth. The 101 pets, or similiar? They are apparently more enthusiastic than knowleable.
