We are currently at the emergency vet with Tosie. She refused to touch more than a few bites of her breakfast, and considering she has been steadily getting worse with her food over the past few day, we decided to bring her into the animal hospital.

Right now, we’re in triage and luckily she has no fever, which we’re thankful for. I will update you all once we know more.

UPDATE:

Tosie’s HCT is normal! It is 43, which is slightly lower than the 45 she had last Wednesday, but considering we are actively tapering down on her steroids, her specialist feels this is just her body adjusting.

The diarrhea and lack of appetite are not due to anemia, which I am so relieved over I can’t ever describe it lol. Her vet suspects that her stomach just never really caught a break and that all these pills have just been rough on her. Her clinical exam was normal and she hasn’t eaten any foreign objects that could cause this either.

We’ll be putting her back on cerenia and Ondansetron for the time being, and she’s also been prescribed Hills diet gastrointestinal biome food, which should help the bacteria in her stomach even out. She will also stay on her regimen of daily fortiflora.

Hopefully, this will help with her tummy problems and my little girl will get back to normal soon❤

That was a scare you guys didn't need! I'm glad her levels are normal. Is she back home? And how has she been today?

She is back home but she’s not completely back to normal. She is eating but only if we put lots of treats on her food. It’s not super surprising since she did only get half a day’s worth of anti-nausea meds and the new food, but we’re hoping that after a couple days on the meds she’ll finally want to eat without intervention again

Update: Tosie is still not eating normally. She is alert and bright eyed though and currently grooming herself. But she refuses food unless it’s covered in treats. She peed today but hasn’t pooped yet, so I’m unsure if she still has diarrhea. I’m hoping the medicine just needs a bit longer to work but right now I’m feeling terrified and powerless. I had really hoped we’d never have to go through this again

The treats may be a little 'rich' for her too. Have you tried lickable treats? I use Delectable Lickable Treats in the stew flavors, they seem to have good amounts of shredded meats in a gel-like sauce. I give all my cat meds in it and give it to anyone who refuses to eat when sick. They seem to always take a couple of licks which keeps them going. I'll keep your little one in my thoughts and prayers......

I'm always encouraged when one of mine is sick, and starts self grooming. To me, that means they're feeling better. I really hope her appetite picks back up next. :hugs:

We’ve tried Sheba lickable treats for her I’m the past but she wouldn’t go near them. :( I don’t think I have access to the Delectables brand in my country (I’m outside the US), the only ones I’ve been able to find so far are the Sheba brand 😭

I really hope so too. She’s been playing her mouse today, watching birds from the windows and galloping around the house like a tiny horse lol it’s just her appetite that seems to be affected

Update!

Tosie ate her entire serving of breakfast today without any treats!!! She also pooped last night before bed and it was completely normal!! She was also playing like a fiend yesterday. I would say she played more yesterday than she has since the tummy troubles started. Hopefully things will stay on this upward trend, as it seems her belly is finally starting to feel a little better🥲

Tosie ate all of her food yesterday with no treats. It did take her a very long time to finish her meals though. At least 20-30 minutes for one serving of food when normally it would take her 1. This morning she’s being picky again, but I did notice that last night her belly was gurgling a lot and she was drooling a bit, probably from nausea. Hopefully lunch will go better since she’ll have more of the anti-nausea pills in her system.

Keep in mind each kitty is different, and unfortunately side effects are the same for a lot of medication such as anit nausea and pain medication. They all have the potential to cause inappetence, lethargy, etc. I wouldn't be too worried, just didn't want you to freak out if her appetite isn't the best right now! ❤

Whaaaat!! I actually had no idea that anti-nausea pills could cause inappetence! How ironic is that???😅

im very pleased with her poops at least! No diarrhea since Tuesday, only normal poos! Her vet has advised us to bring her back in on Monday if she hasn’t had some improvement with the food so I will keep you all updated. But hopefully that won’t be necessary 🤞🏻
