This morning, Rick is trying to get the cats' breakfast ready. They're yelling and he's working as fast as he can. Put all the plates down and....no Muffin. He called her. Nothing. He came back to the bedroom to ask me if I've seen her. I had just seen her about 15 minutes prior to the alarm ringing, so I knew she was in the house. But no Muffin.
Rick is checking closets and I'm looking beneath the sofa and chairs, the bureaus in the bedroom. No Muffin. And the whole time we are calling her, but she's not responding. This is unusual because when we call a cat, that cat comes. Always. (Except for BooBoo, who is deaf.)
We're in the kitchen and, by this time, we're a little frantic. She has to be in the house! But where? And then Mollipop walked over to the lazy Susan and chirped. Rick opened the lazy Susan, Muffin jumped out into the kitchen and said, "Hey! Breakfast? Please!"
It's our fault; we should have realized she was in there. Ever since they installed the new cabinets in the kitchen, Muffin and Tabby have become very interested in the cabinets and drawers. I've found Tabby in one of the lazy Susans before....but I just happened to see her going inside. Took her for a bit of a spin, brought her back to the front and she came back out into the kitchen. She thinks it's great fun. Evidently, Muffin wanted to see what all the excitement was about.
Now that lazy Susan is called the Feline Twlight Zone....after all, it is Halloween today!
(BTW, we've had a bit of a breakthru in the relationship between Mollipop and Muffin. Starting on Monday, when I went home from work sick and spent the day in bed, Muffin has started to sleep to the right of my head on my bed pillow. Mollipop has always slept curled up in my left arm and whenever Muffin would try to jump onto the bed, Molli would spit and hiss at her until Muffin got back off. Well, for some reason, Mollipop is now allowing Muffin to sleep on my pillow....I don't think she's real happy about it. She'll raise her head up from my arm and glare at Muffin on the pillow. Muffin will raise her head up from my pillow and glare at Molli. When they start that muttering-under-their-breath-keening thing, I'll tap them both on the nose a bit and hiss at them....the Alpha Cat has spoken! And they calm back down. It may just be a small breakthru, but it's a breakthru and I'll take it.
Of course, then on Tuesday morning, Muffin went after Mollipop in the bedroom and they rolled all the way out the hallway into the living room, fighting and growling the whole way. I'm starting to wonder how much of it is a game and how much of it is really serious. Last night, Mollipop and I were in bed and Muffin jumped up. Molli started to growl and I told her to knock it off. Muffin walked up to the pillow and flopped down. And that's where we all stayed the rest of the night. Rick came to bed and, of course, he thought it was adorable.)
