My neighbors took in a stray cat and she had kittens 3 days ago. Since then 3 of the 6 had died and now they are worried because today she stopped caring for the kittens, wont nurse, lay, clean them or anything and she herself wont eat. They have been trying to feed the kittens and every time they do the mother gets mad. They noticed the mother cat is still occasionally bleeding slightly and she looks like she lost a lot of weight in one day. They did move them to another room today does that have anything to do with her behavior? Is she sick? and what should they do with the kittens? Please help ASAP!

Can you take mom and kittens into the vet? The kittens will need to be bottle fed if they can't nurse, so you can feed them KMR or goat's milk through a syringe, along with pedialyte and honey.

Agree. Mom is unwell and needs to see a vet immediately. This is an emergency!

In the meantime, the kittens need to be fed 1-2 mLs of kitten formula every 1-2 hours with a needleless syringe. Feed tummy down, head up, drops in the side of the mouth slowly.

Kittens need to be kept warm with a hot water bottle set on low under a blanket, or a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel.

Kittens need their genitals stimulated with a warm, damp cloth after every meal in order to pee and poop.

Please let us know how this all goes.

Yes, just to agree. Momma is severly sick, and needs vets help to survive. The kittens needs to be hand raised as if they were orphans. Lots of work to do, but it can be done! Its good they took the kittens to another room, as momma although being much sick, is in protective mode.

Observe, going to a shelter (or your "Animal friends society" with them isnt safe, unless the shelter specializes on hand raising small kittens and has foster homes lined up. An average shelter will most probably pts them immediately after admitting.

If economy is a problem to your neighbour, but heshe is willing to try and do the work, a much better solution is to try and get this shelter to agree they neigbour is such a foster home for the shelter. Because, quite often its not the money which is the real problem, but lack of place and suitable volunteers.

Some vets do accept releasing of sick cats to them - and not always pts them by automato. I suppose they see the use to have something for their vet assistants and veterinary students to train on. We do hear nice stories sometimes.
So, such a vet release may be less bad than release to an average shelter...

But again, the surely best if your neigbour or you N Nova Granite are the foster home for them kittens, and hopefully for momma too.

ps. If she survives the crisis, they may probably be reunited, and fostered togehter. Dont let them out again, let the kittens be fostered and socialized properly, so they can be easily adopted out when they are at least 8+ weeks.
Momma shall be spayed. If she is fosterable, good, if not she may be released back outside - as in TNR. SHE is probably used to to manage outside.
