Hi everyone!

Are there any distinctive markings that are unique to an EM that can help distinguish between an EM and a tabby cat?

I'm interested in getting a bronze EM and want to know what I should look for.

Thanks!

Egyptian Mau cats are spotted tabbies. They should have spots across the body (even in the shoulder blades) and vest buttons across their bellies. They should have broken necklaces and their paw pads should be black.

Sometimes we get classic tabby Egyptian Maus, but these are very rare.

There are not too many bronze-only breeders out there. If you want a cat with good color, you should go to someone who specializes only in the bronze Mau.

Maus are spotted tabbies - they don't come in any other pattern. I would read up on the standards of Mau and look at picture from breeders so you have a better understanding of them.

There are "spotted" tabbies out there in the domestic/mixed breeds but most of them are more from a broken mackerel tabby pattern and not a true spotted. And there are other things like body, head, ears, etc that make a Mau a Mau.
