Does Everyone That Brush Their Cat's Teeth Use Toothpaste?

Being doing the slow process of getting my cats to tolerate their tooth brushing. Previously I didn't use any toothpaste since I heard they may become dependent on that, but the more I read it seems like everyone uses toothpaste?

If I go with one I might as well go with the same brand I get my toothbrush from.

I use that exact toothpaste and I don't know if it's any better or worse than any other brands but my cats love the taste. They will push each other out of the way trying to get to the toothbrush. My oldest cat still won't tolerate actual brushing, but he will gnaw on the bristles with the toothpaste, which I figure must be better than nothing.
